Wish Me Luck

Postby mr_flash » May 9th, '11, 08:51

I will be performing my first sort of show for some friends this weekend. As part of a come dine with me type thing. several simple card effects between courses and a couple of bigger card effects after.

First real performance since taking up magic and learning from here and a couple of books.

Wish me luck, i'll need it :? :?

Good luck sir. Enjoy it, first and foremost, and secondly - learn from it. Actually you'll have no choice with the second thing. Let us know how you get on!

Good luck. Remember to stay calm and take your time when performing. Sometimes if nerves get to a person they can start talking too fast or rushing things. Hope it goes well for you.

Well done! It's a big step.

Approach the evening knowing that you will make some mistakes. Don't pressure yourself and as the others have said, enjoy it!

Mistakes are to be learned by so you will only get better by making them. If something goes wrong just use a line such as.....oh well, i knew one of us would screw up tonight. I just didn't think it would be Me!

Let us know what you are planning on performing and how you get on.

Best wishes.
Alec

Good advice above. Take your time and don't rush things. If any lucky coincidences happen be sure to take full credit. And if you get a bit stuck a DL or TC will work wonders. Enjoy! :D

Good luck and as siad - your first show is a big deal so enjoy it and savour the moment.

However, don't go out expecting to make mistakes - Go out believing that you will conquer the world and if a few mistakes do happen then so what.

Well All Done.

I initially was going to do a complete routine after dinner but glad i decided to break it up into 3 separate performances with one effect per person after each course.

After Starters i eased by self in with some self workers.

1. Cards never lie - Using Kings And Queens
2. 4 cuts and Aces appear on top of each pile
3. 34th card prediction
4. Card appears between 2 random cards after blowing on pack

These all went without a hitch and calmed my nerves a bit.

After Mains

1. Card to Mouth
2. Card from middle of deck to their hand
3. Card shift from between 2 black aces to 2 red aces

Best response from Card Shift and still no major mistakes. Few clumsy sleights but think i kept them hidden pretty well

After Desert.

I shifted the routines to more of a mind reading theme and used both my Svengali Deck and Ryder back deck to great effect. I had left the Ryder deck hanging from the ceiling all evening and only opened to show one card reversed in the deck.

My final effect was using a version of the credit card effect which is placed in the pack and highlights a card, the card then disappears only to reappear somewhere unexpected.
I modified this though and each person had a sealed envelope with a prediction in. I then used 4 identical hotel key cards instead of a credit card and performed the effect on each person. They all opened their envelopes to find my prediction and their card inside another sealed envelope .

I have to say i was buzzing afterwards , i could then relax and have several glasses of champers. I have really got the bug for this performing lark. Much Much Much more practice required and hopefully i will hone my skills over the coming months / years
