Robert Fitzpatrick, a retired transportation agency worker in New York, said he had spent more than $140,000 (£85,000) of his savings on advertisements in the run-up to 21 May to publicise the prediction.
After 1800 passed and nothing had happened, he said: "I do not understand why... I do not understand why nothing has happened."

Well, Robert, the words, ‘More money than sense’ come to mind. OK, these are supposedly rational adults with brains quite capable of great thinking and great works so why were they duped into believing something so drastic as the end of the World? As far as I can see, there was no confirmatory ‘evidence’ from outside the cult (I refuse to call it a Church) so they were blindly accepting one person’s version and, in some cases, making awful financial and social changes as a result. I'd very much like to see the financial records and recent transactions of Mr.Camping's organisation, I'll bet they tell a very different sort of story.

As magicians, I guess our first thought on hearing the prophesy was to see it as something highly unlikely, if not actually suspicious. Perhaps we should offer our collective services to check out and evaluate such claims and prophesies  ?

I have a prediction of the end of the world date here in my wallet. For the first time... what date do you think the world will end?

13th August 1974. It did take place 'cos Queen Victoria told me and the world was replaced by something far worse - the one we're living in!

Actually, a simple numerology or date prediction effect could be done using The Rapture as a theme.... might make a few quid...

R. Shane's prediction routine for the end of the world is good fun to do. I think in light of recent events I may give it a read again.

Not all Christians believed May 21st was going to be the end, or whatever you want to call it.

Funny thing is I bet there are a lot of people wanting to kick his ass, regardless if he is a 89 year old man.

You might get a kick out of reading these:

Blessings on thee, little man
