Vegas Magic?

Postby Lawrence » May 26th, '11, 12:23

Off to Vegas for a bit soon.
Aside from the obvious shows down the strip is there anything a bit more hidden away i should make my way to?
Any ideas?

The best place to ask would be the magic shop behind the Luxor if it is still there, Denny & Lee Magic Studio. They have (had?) lectures once a week, there is also a meeting of magicians at a restaurant every Thursday I think, ask in any of the casino "Houdini Magic Shops" the main people in there know where to find it but the guys in Denny & Lee will definitely know.

I have seen Copperfield, Burton, Angel and Jermay in Vegas (going to see Penn & Teller in December), if you like theatre Angel's show is definitely worth watching although they have been slowly adding more "in your face" illusions and making it more of a "typical Vegas magic show" as time progresses. Copperfield and Burton have come to the end of their contracts I believe so not sure if you will be able to see them. Jermay was at O'Shea's. Gerry McCambridge is apparently well worth watching but not seen it personally.

As I said though, Denny & Lee, if it is still there and not been steamrollered by the recession, is the place to ask.

They are great fun Lee. They are not as scary as you think because after a few rides you get used to the height!

I saw David Copperfield last in March and it was a good show although he is really cheesy!! Magic is excellend though and I d never seen him before so loved it.

Saw Penn and Teller a few years ago there and they are Brilliant. Usual stuff but just loved it. They will go to the rear of the theatre and meet everyone after the show so I have a couple of pics with them and autographs sitting proudly on my wall!!

There is an excellent guide to Vegas with really good tips in the forum section of moneysavingexpert . com. Dont go withour reading it it will save you time and money!!

Not to put a downer on them but I thought the rides were a bit... well... naff.

To try and play devil's advocate though I was the only person on them at the time as my wife chickened out.

The Skyjump however looks amazing and I will definitely be doing that when I go back this year.

My favourite non-magic things in Vegas are probably;

Bellagio Fountains
La Reve at the Wynn
Pleasure Pit at Planet Hollywood (just being honest)
Any Cirque show.
Diablo's.
MIX at The Mandalay Bay
Ghost Bar at the Palms
Coyote Ugly at New York, New York
Times Square at New York, New York too if you're feeling particularly raucous.
Beso at Crystals (Best. Steak. Ever.)
Cathouse at Luxor.
Wazuzu at the Wynn
The Hoover Dam (it's a nice drive to it although technically not Vegas itself)
Tao at the Venetian
Craps on a Saturday night at the Pleasure Pit in Planet Hollywood

I'll stop now. I love Vegas. I could spend a month there and never run out of things to do, although I would almost certainly run out of money!

I am going to use it as my "warm up" for a skydive!

It was cancelled last time I was there because of the weather! Too wet and windy, in VEGAS!

*cries*

This was quite seriously looked into. Some form of american muscle car was in order; I was looking at a Pontiac Firebird myself, but hiring something like that is way out of my current spend. But we'll see how much i win!
We have hired a mid range convertible for a couple of days to have a burn to and from the Canyon
