How come he's in a position to dictate what's "good" and shape popularity? It's not fair.

How about resurrecting the Spike Milligan sketch where he tried to contact someone who had died of deafness ...using a bull horn? :D

I actually said that to my missus last night, so I'm in total agreement with you hehe :)

If we can sue McDonalds for making us fat and cigarette companies for giving us cancer; why can't we sue Smirnoff for all the ugly gits we've sh*gged ??

Off on a slight tangent, I somewhat disagree.

Never underestimate the power of good marketing.

Did anyone else catch the excellent Superbrand thing on BBC3 for the past few weeks? Very intriguing stuff.

On note of David, Karen and BGT, I do not watch it so just looked on YouTube - Illusions were excellent, should have done something different to audition, Karen is hot, a singing act will win.

I have never bought any song released from X-Factor and other such freakshows. Though I would if I genuinely liked the song. No amount of marketing will cover a *hit song to mine ears.

I would not expect you too. The interesting thing about marketing and in particular branding is that it has a physical effect on people, so for example if people know they are drinking Coca Cola it actually tastes better than if they did not know they were drinking Coca Cola.

For people like us it quite possibly works the opposite way for things such as X Factor. Songs may actually appear worse as a result of our internalised hatred of the X Factor machine! There are however countless masses who will be convinced it sounds better because it is from X Factor.

I don't think it boils down to anything more than 'taste'. Not because of enjoying mentalism or magic. A fair few people like music they can have on in the background, that doesn't make them want to do anything other than tap their foot in time. They would be better off buying a metronome than a Boyzone album. I don't like wearing jumpers with huge logos on them. I don't like wearing sunglasses.

I don't feel the urge for a trendy haircut. I think its more to do with identifying with something. Some people don't enjoy being different. So they behave and look like their surroundings.
