For example, someone hands you a shuffled deck of cards. Which effect or effects would you do to impress?

Tough choice. It's hard to argue with Twisting the Aces, but Daley's Last Trick deserves a mention.

OotW is fab but I would say not strictly impromptu and isn't suited to as many situations as the two mentioned above on account of taking so long.

triumph would get my vote... it always blows them away... or with a very little piece of culling i can get set up for Allan Ackermans (we are not worthy etc etc) kannibal kings or 76 collectors.. both of which i do badly!... hehe

I do Tipsy from Royal Road to Card Magic (a basic truimph effect). It usually plays really well.

I have to agree with Boywonder..

Twisting the aces...

Easy and effective (well for me that is)...

Also like the Ambitious Card.. but I'm still working on this so I can't really say i'd do it a the moment. Give me a month or two though !

Two Card Monte
Out of this world
Sandwich Aces (don't know the real name...what happens is that you sandwich a face-up card with two black aces, which is then turned over on the top of the deck, only to find out the face-up card is missing. The deck is then handed to the spectator and cut. The speccy finds the card face-down sandwiched between two face-up red aces...it's her card!)

I would perform Ambitious Card. But what trick is twisting the Aces? Where can I find to perform it?

Thanks!

Definitely the two card monte - it takes a small set-up, but not impossible if you're sitting there playing with a deck of cards in the first place.

I've been getting good reactions form this recently, having changed the reveal slightly. I read in one book (Magic and Showmanship by Henning Nelms, I think) that spectators don't like to be surprised without knowing - they prefer to know a surprise is coming. So, before we turn our Aces over, I simply look into their eyes and say, "Here's the surprise" before looking down, waving my card over his in three sweeps, counting "one, two, three - turn."

It works a treat for me, anyway...
