A.E.Waite's Tarot

Postby Le Petit Bateleur » Jul 4th, '11, 19:03

Hi Everyone,

Did Arthur Waite publish a book to explain the meaning of his Tarot cards?

I was wondering if there was some "first hand" materials to be found somewhere.

Thanks!
LP.

He did indeed. "The Pictorial Key to the Tarot". Amazon should have it.

Yes the pictorial key to the tarot. It comes with a lot of Rider-Waite-Smith decks, but you can read it for free. The old language style isn't to everyone's taste. Crowley was very rude about Waite and his writing, but worth a read. Pamela Colman Smith is worth reading about, an interesting life with links to Bram Stoker and the golden dawn and then writing children books telling the Jamican stories of her childhood.

yes. Indeed i have one. It comes with the Tarot deck when you buy it as a boxed set. I was lucky enough topick up a set in a charity shop for 1.50.

they sell for between 10, and 20 pounds in shops.

I should add that for general readings, Freddies Tarot book is better.

I also have a pocket-sized version without the illustrations, called "The Key to the Tarot".

BTW, if you like the symbolism but not the drawings, have a look at the Universal Waite pack. The cards are completely redrawn and recoloured, and look a lot more attractive.
