DoubleThink from DPB with Psypher.

Postby nickmadsen » Jul 6th, '11, 10:37

Hello everyone.

I was just re-watching DPB, because when I got it a couple of years ago I was nowhere near the skill level required to do most of these effects.

But I was thinking about doing version of Doublethink which could be done walk around.

This explanation might seem lacking in details, but I don't want to expose anything, and I'm pretty sure people who are familiar with these effects can figure out what I mean.

First of all I would ask spectator 1 to think of a card and write it down while my back is turned. Then I want her to crumble up the paper and place it in her pocket or out of view, and tell her this is just for evidence if needed later. Or she can show it to someone else while my back is turned, that way I couldn't hear anything.

Then I'll remove the cards from the card case and continue with the trick with spectator 2 as usual, asking them to hold their hands out so I can use it as a table.

Hope you understand what I mean, and I would like to hear your thoughts on this. I kind of like the thing about them having placed their "chosen card paper" in their pocket, and then never actually return focus on that again, but later when the spectator reach her pocket and find the paper, she will wonder how I could know since I never went near the paper?

Thanks

Nick Madsen

Just to clarify...

So you want to ask spec 1 to think of any card, then get them to write this down on a piece of paper and put it in their pocket. Well, 1st of all there is no point in that. Why get them to write it down? They will think you have glimpsed it somehow, and you haven't. Its much cleaner without that.

EDIT: Ah sorry, I didn't read the title properly. You would be better trying to find a way to get around the "move" needed for the 1st spectators card. Because the best thing about this effect is that the card is merely thought of, not written down, not spoken etc. If you are going to use psypher, then why not just both get them to think of a card and write it down, screw up the paper and put it in their pockets? There is really no need for a pack of cards then.

Thank you for your feedback.

And you're right about the fact that there's really no point in asking people to think about something and then having them write it down. But since that is quite essential for psypher I couldn't see the problem with that. Second, the majority of people who use psypher seem to love it. And lastly it's basically the same with billetwork, why do spectators need to write somehing down so I can reveal their thoughts?

I just think that with psypher you never see the paper which is written on.

Yeah, I suppose. But then the trick is no longer DoubleThink, it is just Psypher :P
