Dynamo- Magician Impossible

Postby morrowsean » Jul 8th, '11, 22:04

Hi, Did anyone watch Dynamo-Impossible Magician last night? I think ive seen it all now, this guy is probably the best street Magician ive ever seen or ever likely to see. David Blaine used to be my hero and someone i dreamed of being as good as. Dynamo has taken Magic to a new Level for me. I loved everythibg he performed, much like david Blaine but without the weird personality/Staring etc. My Favourite effects of the night were probaly "the Bottle twist", "the cant lift him off the floor trick", "ring to wine glass stem", and "phone to glass bottle". Can anybody please send me some links where i can order any of these... Please? These r probably the best close up tricks ive ever seen.

Many Thanks!

He's not even close to that good.

It was a moderately entertaining show, but I would love to see a return to the days when you needed a personality to be an entertainer.

I saw nothing new in the show.

Agreed...

It brings an air of, 'All you need to be good is lot's of expensive tricks, and flashy toys' to everyone.

Ultimately though he'll face the same problem as Blaine, his spark will die out, and neither of them have the charisma required to do stage material for anything more than 10 minutes.

Don't get me wrong, I respect the guy, and he is brilliant from a technical point of view, I'm just sick of the 'Hey.. wanna see something cool?' approach. The laymen love it though, so I guess that's all that matters... right?

To adress the original question.I dont think the effects are marketed. Not that I've seen them anyways.

The real question is...Is Dynamo proof that powerful tricks can prevail over your personality and presention.I think if the effects are strong enough maybe so...

Maybe they just haven't seen a very good magician.

Perhaps if they saw a more talented magician, they would find him even MORE entertaining than this other one.

Buy pretty much ANY trick, anywhere, and then learn to perform it, and perform generally, and you will have what he has.
You don't want to be known as the "Dynamo Copycat" do you?
Brilliant from a technical point of view.

Ummm.....how many real, live magicians have you spent time with? Try spending 10 minutes with Will Houston for example and you will realise just how incorrect that statement is...

Paul Daniels once said about David Blaine - 'He's got 6 really good tricks, and after arriving on the magic scene and doing them a few times he thought... now what'.

This may be the same for dynamo, less in the case of the T.V show (you can do things on a T.V show that you cant do in 'the real world') more in the interviews he has where he performs Card switch in mouth, A flourish ending with the chosen card in his hat, Lean back levitation....

These early days of the T.V shows will always be the best, though personally the latest magic shows like Magician Impossible and Deception are turning into guilty pleasures. And for me are becoming less about enjoying the magic and more about finding out how the editors put a TRULY INEXPLICABLE show together.

It will be interesting to see if Dynamos style and persona will develop over the years.
