As a fire-eater I have been injured often. Once my face went up, at a photo shoot. It made for a great picture. I find that the minor burns you get heal quickly.
I remember in a competition once taking out a vegetable knife to cut a rope (fake cut - magnets in the rope). I forget that I keep my vegetable knives super sharp. I slashed my thumb, and sprayed blood everywhere. Needless to say I didn't win that night.
My worst injury was when I was bringing in the control box for my exploding toilets. I had four pyro flashes, and rather than set them up at the venue, I primed everything beforehand at home. As I walked into the hotel I bumped off a button on the control panel and a pyroflash exploded in my arms. It gave me very severe burns from my elbow to my wrist.
I was able to cover the burns with my shirt, but it stuck to the ooze. It looked fairly grose. The worst point came when I had to escape from a straitjacket, and the rough canvas rubbed against the burn. On the upside there was a wonderful aroma of roast pork surrounding me for the duration of the performance.
Maurice Fogel once realised that the wrong rifle was facing him during his Russian Roulette Routine. He held the plate against his shoulder instead of his head that night, and took a bullet rather than abandon the routine. What a man.
