Michael

The lines from my first post are:-

Don't get caught up in the advertising blurb.

This is a funny little filler effect and should be reviewed as such.

I think this is as clear as it can be.

Entertaining - YES,
Gets a good/nice reaction YES,
Easy to do - YES.

But Reputation maker - maybe when h*ll frezes over.

My refering to TV was only an example and could well have been a stage show, cloe-up show, magic convention or radio interview. The relevent aspect of that was the introduction.

Well that confuses me a little as I thought I was argiung the point that boywonder is right to define the trick as a reptation maker, if that is how he feels about it.

I guess my arguement must have come across as ambiguous... :(

Anyway, as a separate point. Magic Box don't have this any more. They sold out of the last batch and they don't know when it will be coming in again...

Right, im fed up of this now.

I said it was reputation maker because it fits my style.

Paula Jayne obviously doesnt agree with this, but everyone is entitled to an opinion and in what i perform, this is a reputation maker, not for its magical content but for the fact that the audience like it, just because it isnt all that magical doesnt mean it cant be a reputation maker.

I may only be 15, but i have been working professionally, as my main source of income for nearly 4 years, i arent an adult yet, but i am treat like all other performers regardless of age. If i was going to be criticised ecause im only 15, i wouldnt have Paul Daniels wanting to meet me, i wouldnt have had so much encouragement of Jimmy Cricket and i wouldnt have had Gordon Kaye commenting on how professional i am, i wouldnt even have got to the big variety clubs that i have performed in!

To claryfy, i take this as a reputation maker and if Paula doesnt agree with me, then thats fine, but she shouldnt say that because she doent believe that is a reputation maker, that it isnt.

Now i dont want this post blocking, but can we just get on together as professional performers, not like children, PLEASE!

I think the problem is that "reputation maker" is perhaps being used in two different ways.

Some people are using it in the sense that it will make you famous, or at least well-known. You will be the guy who does the Pip, Squeak and Wilfred routine, the CMH, or the Haunted Key. You are known for that effect and it helps people remember you.

Then we have the effects which help make you "as a magician" rather than an entertainer. People will declare you a "guru" (*cough*) or whatever and start fanclubs for you.

The two might not be mutually exclusive.

No one is ever going to say, "Damn, that trick with the frogs was the best magic I have ever seen." However, they might say, "Damn, that trick with the frogs is the silliest/funniest/most memorable magic I have ever seen. Can we book the frog guy again?"

I have to agree about Lennart Green's Snap Deal. It's a fantastic sleight, from all I understand, but I bet to most audiences, the frog trick will be more memorable.

I was sorting out some magic yesterday and found my box of Magic by Gosh "realistic" sponge rabbits. The blurb (and it is a blurb, so I had my salt ready) was written by Michael Ammar and says that audiences often remember the rabbits a long time after they've forgotten the difficult routine which took years to master.

One of my favourite routines is "Parabox" by Tenyo. One occasion when making things out of brightly coloured plastic counts in their favour.

A couple of years ago, I bumped into someone I used to work with and we fixed up to have lunch. I hadn't seen him in two years and it must have been a year or two before that when I showed him Parabox, but he remembered it.

I wouldn't say it made my reputation, but it's in the same area of magic as the multiplying rabbits, so maybe Michael was right.

you think that that was an example of bad advertising blurb, cop a load of this. Not only misleading, but effect one , is an exclusive item to Larry Becker.

No-one's having a go because of your age, however, they WOULD be perfectly entitled to have a go at your name-dropping and arrogance in the above paragraph. Modesty really is a reputation-making asset...

Precisely.

Boywonder, I hate to stop all this solo trumpet blowing, but may i point out that due to the laws in this country it is ilegal for anybody of your age to be " working full time" .

I should also add that licencing regulations in this countrystate that a person of your age would not be allowed inside whilst alcohol is being served, let alone working there. It could cost the licence owner his livelyhood.

Im not working "full time", im working at a professional standard.

If you dont want to believe me about the variety clubs thats fine. But i know what i have acheived

And BTW, i wasnt trying to be arrogant. I have been discriminated so many times because of my age that i wanted to make sure that my age wasnt the reason for what has been said
