Hello to everyone!

Postby andrew_f_m » Jul 25th, '11, 15:47

Hi everyone,

I just joined the Talk Magic forum and thought I'd briefly introduce myself.

My name's Andrew and I'm a 23 year old student - living in Watford, just outside London.

When I was much younger I was obsessed with all things magic and have decided to take up the hobby again to have a break from the daily grind and have some fun.

I'm certainly an amateur, but can do a few Blaine tricks with a deck, which always gets a good response from those watching. I hope to meet some people here, learn a lot of magic and above all have a good time.

I'd be really happy to hear from anyone.

Cheers,

Andrew

Hi Andrew. I would be considered a ''hobbiest'' on here in that im not a paid professional. I hope my porformances are of a professional standard though :) I perform mainly at parties (informally), down the pub (for friends, family and strangers), and anywhere its appropriate really. I have done a few formal table hopping sets in the past at charity doos. Started learning the craft at the age of 8 or 9 (around 26 years), when i borrowed Royal Road to Card Magic from my local library (i went on to borrow it many times and eventially bought my own copy). From there it was Mark Wilsons. Worked my way through many classic texts like Expert at the Card Table, Expert card Technique, Bobo, Enclycopedia of Card Tricks and so on. Then from there i went on to study works from Michael Ammar, Derren Brown, John Bannon, David Regal and many others.
I concentrate on close-up magic and am influenced by guys like Ammar, Paul Daniels, Doug Henning, David Copperfield, Vernon and many of the other greats. As you may have guessed from the list I prefer the older classic pieces. All the material i use is classic plots and effects to which i have added my own touches/ presentations/sleights. I am also interested in the history of the craft and the developments and changes that have been made to some of the classic pieces (not always for the better).
      Thats about it really :)

    Hi.

don't want to burst your bubble... but you won't "learn" a lot of magic here. You will however find lots of useful information to guide you and the members on this forum are very helpful when it comes to answering any questions you have!!! :)

so im guessing you're interested in card magic??
may i ask what materials you own..... i.e, books, dvd's etc??

    Understood. :)

I've just purchased the "Royal Road to Card Magic" and am slowly working my way through it.

Are there any DVDs/Books that are very well reviewed and known for people just beginning their journey in the world of magic?

    Cheers,

    Andrew
