Hi, my name is Gopal, and I'm thrilled to discover this site.
I always liked card tricks when I was a kid. My love for the topic became dormant until a couple of years ago, when a m8 lent me some ellusionist videos he had brought (Ninja series - absolutely awesome). Since then, I have acquired quite a few dvds, and a pack of cards is never far from my grasp. Most of all, I like putting together sleights to come up with my own routines. I must confess that my greatest pleasure is performing for kids - they are so much easier to please, whereas all too often, adults just spend the time trying desperately how to figure out my tricks - which in my opinion - rather spoils the "magic" of the illusion.

My main interest is close-up impromptu card magic. I can still remember when I the joy when I accidentally invented my first sleight (when I was about 14) - I say invented with caution, because I am sure other people have come up with it, but nobody taught it to me - I was messing around with a deck of cards, and suddenly realised that this move allowed me to force a card on anyone, and was pretty much invisible - very neat. Like I say, it is probably not genuinely original, insofar as magic is almost as old as society, so it is hard to come up with new sleights. However, I have searched high and low in books and videos, and not found it anywhere else.
If anyone would like to learn it, I will post it on here somewhere, and you can give me your opinions/slate me if it you don't think it is good enough.

Anyway, I hope to speak to you all on here soon.
Gopal

Hi Gopal

Welcome to Talk Magic. Sounds like you are going to fit right in here.

Your new move/force sounds interesting, I will look forward to reading more about it when you gain access to our restricetd areas, that would be the ideal place and time to post something like that, and there are many members with a great knowledge of effects past and present so I am sure one of them will let you know if indeed your move is unique.

Regardless of that though it must have been very satisfying to come up with it all by yourself. well done.

That just makes me smile. I bet there as as many that would say the opposite as there are that would agree with you...

The sleight sounds interesting.

It's great when you come up with something like that. I invented (as in "hadn't read or seen it anywhere") a sponge ball move years ago, and it's nice.

I suppose I should put it on here, thinking about it!

That was me, sorry. Very strange, because I had logged in and I didn't think I'd been inactive long enough to get logged out.

There's some kind of (very annoying) timeout involved - I very often find I have to log back in even though I haven't consciously logged out!
