All the Fun of the Fair

Interesting programme last night, that looked at the origins of the traveling fair, freak shows, side shows, boxing shows, early cinema, carnival games, and of course rides, and how they morphed into modern day theme parks. Also some interesting stories about the show men that ran it. It's on iplayer.

Watching it, too, and becoming more and more convinced my academic future is up North. Fairground Archives in Sheffield, magic in Huddersfield, and experts from Manchester and Salford University... :D

Up North is the only way to go. No point in studying amongst the Southern Faries. It was nice seeing Jon. Jon encouraged me to join the Hull magic circle originally. It would have been nice to see a few of his own sideshow illusions, but it was covering a lot in an hour. Very interesting. Thanks for highlighting it was on.

Jobasha: but I get to mess around with stage blood and traumatise students, so it's not all bad. ;)
