Load a card on the top of the deck

Postby Tjex1 » Aug 12th, '11, 21:45

After reading the Missed Opportunities thread where loading a card to the top of the deck was mentioned, I was wondering what the correct way to do this was. My "method" usually involves overhand shuffling the deck until the card I wanted turns up and then shuffling it to the top. What is the correct method of doing this, It will help me to do many other tricks and improve my shuffling ability.

Thanks

(As an afterthought what was probably meant was that the deck was looked through to find the correct card, and then that put on the top... Anyway)

Do you mean cull a card to the top? As in, the card is lost within the deck and you want it on top?

If you mean what i think you mean then a stack would be a sure fire method. If its a genuinely shuffled deck and a freely named card then there are methods for multiple gli**ses, usually while riffle shuffling or straightning out the cards. As these also rely on the element of chance they're not 100%.

The Hozfinser Cull would suit fine, as well as any other form of culling.

A stack, memorized or just cyclical will also allow you to cut to the desired card with a bit of practice.

There are many ways to cull cards in other ways, whether it be with overhand shuffles as taught by Erdnase or the various spread culls.

Many different ways to achieve what you need.

If you want a card at the top, why not just let the spectator shuffle, keep the card back in your pocket, then add it when you take them back :D
You can even point out that you did not do any "shonky magician stuff".

Sorry...this may be too simplistic for many magicians who want to prove how good with cards they are ;)

David Regal has a method for the spectator to shuffle the deck as much as they like yet he has predicted the top card. The prediction can be in full view (no switch) and there are no extra or held out cards.
I think the OP is meaning something akin to Derrens ''Instant Card'' from Pure Effect.

Thanks, I will look up the culling methods, but all my magic books seem to be going missing (no irony intended!)
