I'm Dan and I've been lurking around these parts for a few weeks now and getting some good information from what I read on the forum.
Over the last six months I've developed an interest in magic simply from wanting to expand on the old Dad trick of disappearing a coin and making it reappear from my kids' ears. While this is till a showstopper for my 3-year old, the middle daughter (5) and eldest son (9) are getting a bit wise to it now (yeah, I know, never perform the same trick twice

Anyway, I invested in a nice brass set of dynamic coins and a bite coin from Magicbox up t'north (where I'm from originally) to expand the repertoire a bit and keep the kids entertained with my new-found magic powers. We had a BBQ with some friends the other week, so when the kids (ours and theirs) started getting a bit bored I whipped out the tricks and kept them entertained for all of five minutes. Go me!
I also volunteer as a helper at our local cub group, and they're a rowdy lot to say the least, so I was thinking that a few decent tricks up the sleeve might be a good way to keep them focused at the start of our sessions. Time will tell on that one...
So bearing in mind that it's not going to be cheap to keep adding gimmicks to one's arsenal, I've invested in a copy of RRTCM and Bobo's Modern Coin Magic so that I can arm myself with some skills that I can use without needing the pre-bought tricks. I've been amazed with RRTCM how quickly things have come on, and also how much can be achieved after reading just the first chapter. On the first few pages I was thinking "Yeah, overhand shuffle is going to be fun

So, that's me for the moment, sorry about the War & Peace I do tend to go on sometimes.
