Performing for kids

Postby Sam Kennedy » Aug 20th, '11, 20:23

My cousin was over today and her children wanted to see some tricks, however the tricks I have aren't really childrens tricks...

Anyway, I did shake out and blanked for my cousin and her husband, and then card-toon, kids kards, white bikes and play it straight for her children, and they really loved it! :D It was really enjoyable being able to entertain them and seeing them get excited, it is also MUCH less stressful than performing for adults :)

Just thought I would share my experience, if you are lacking confidence, practice some simple tricks in front of children first! It's great!

The whole reason I took an interest in magic. It's even better knowing that their minds are still open to the fact it's a real magical event* taking place.

*Not that it isn't, of course, but adults are a bit more cynical.

Performing for one or two kids may be less stressful, especially family. But performing for a room full of screaming, hyped up on sugar, partying kids is a totally different ball game. Just a thought for anybody considering working with kids.

That said my friends son is 5 and its lots of fun showing him simple sleights which he thinks is real magic
