types of effects list?

Postby Miniolo » Sep 23rd, '11, 17:48

hello there :) i am in magic for 3/4 years now and doing it proffesional for 1 and a half year and mostly i do table hopping and other types of close up magic... but i want to expand to stage shows too... i have some shows that i did that where tricks of other people or variations on it with own presentation ofcourse but I wanna make my own show with my own material so i wanna start from scratch... so my question is does anyone have a list of types of effects to perform on great scale

penetrations
levitations
multiplications
transpositions
etc

i dont mean tricks just BARE NAKED EFFECTS

A triumph card routine for instance is reallly specialized for cards so its already a trick instead of a RAW EFFECT

a TRANSPOSITION is possible with everything so its nice and RAW to work with :)

if anyone knows where i can find a list of types of effects i would love it:)

or if anyone can help me add this list

There is a sticky on Penguin forums with a daunting amount of categorised tricks which you should have a look.I think it's exactly what you are looking for

Excellent link .I love that. There is a much older version of them performing it on youtube too. It's more principles of magic though as apposed to types of magic

If you can spend time on it--Check out Fitzkee's--The Trick Brain.
He analysed & listed effects and compiled many chapters on methods for each type of effect.
At the end he has this system with a stack of cards listing objects you can use in Magic & how to look up methods etc to achieve what you want to create.
This I always found a bit artificial BUT use the idea as a great brain worker.

It is NOT EASY READING but everything is practical.

The book is still available and you can get an E Book version from Lybrary.com Chris Wasshbers site which has many famoud (legal) books available on it.

Fitzkee's other 2 books from the Trilogy--Showmanship For Magicians & Misdirection For Magicians are also available from Chris.

Misdirection costs £5:89p.The other 2--similar.
Had to get this last week as all 3 of my printed copies of the Trilogy have gone to my son in Portugal.

The classic Magic and Showmanship by Henning Nelms includes a classification of types of magic. You might not necessarily agree with all the details, but you can always use it as a starting point for devising your own classification.

It's a useful book anyway, and quite cheap in paperback.

"Magic teaches us how to lie without guilt." --Eugene Burger
"Hi, Robbie!" "May your mischief be spread." --Derren Brown
