Poker Themed Routines

Postby Sam Kennedy » Oct 3rd, '11, 00:33

I have Pit Hartling's book "Card Fictions", and I really liked the idea of his routine "Cincinnati Pit", however culls, riffle-stacking and bottom-deals are beyond what I am capable of at the minute.

Could anyone recommend some good poker themed routines which aren't as hard as Cincinnati Pit? Or alternate ways of performing Cincinnati Pit?

Cheers,
-Sam Kennedy :)

Use any "Spectator Finds the Aces" type routine, substituting J, K, Q, and Ace, whilst using the 10 as a "wand" - to end up with a Royal Flush.
I use Dai Vernon's "You Are Magic" for exactly this purpose.
Come to think of it, you could use any 4-Ace production and a 10 "wand" for this purpose.

John Bannon's "Fractal Re-Call" (Revised) is an excellent Royal Flush producing routine, with a diminishing ace routine also.
On his "Bullets After Dark" dvd.

Nick Trost has a ten card poker routine called 'Showdown' It is the best ten card routine I have ever come across. Technically it is very easy to do but gets a strong reaction. You can buy it as a packet trick or make up your own as described in his book 'The Card Magic of Nick Trost' (an excellent book)

The routine uses a couple of fake cards but there is an unfaked routine 'Ten Card Poker Deal' in the above mentioned book, it is similar to 'Showdown' but not quite as strong. There are a number of chapters in the book dealing specifically with poker, gambling, etc. None involving difficult sleights. I would thoroughly recommend this book, even to a beginner.

Hi,

Invisible poker on the Forrest Francis Project dvd 1(I think) is a, in my opinion, a fantastic version of the invisible palm with kicker ending.

Big Deal and Royal Assembly by Joshua Jay are both good gambling themed routines.

There's also a blackjack routine by Liam Montier(sp) on one of the Wicked World of Liam Montier dvds if you were heading down a gambling route rather then just poker.

Anthony's 'Dealt' routine. I hear he offers it free to anyone who asks for it on the forum.

Richard Osterlind has a mentalism kind of poker routine in his Breakthough Card System dvd. It's all about the right performance since you don't even handle the cards.
