It's a new film by Martin Scorsese. Very "Steampunk" in production design, and bound to be inspirational to performers at the Bizarre end of the spectrum.

Might not make the movie, but the book, its inspiration and the combination of visuals and text sound great; might have to get that!

The film looks good so I stopped watching the trailer about a quarter of the way in. (I hate the way many trailers seem to be a mini version of the film to the point you could not bother watching the film at all - I don't take the chance of having a good film ruined any more.)

I'll probably try to grab a copy of the book before going to see it too as when I read it's very visual (more so than watching a film, strangely) and I don't like the film characters and voices getting in the way of my version.

Still not seen the movie.

But.. it transpires that Hugo, the automaton used in the film , is real............

seen it and your be disapointed if you expect the automaton to come alive or it to include any fantasy at all, just like sucker punch the wird bits are taken out of context just like they advertised finding neverland and its very french, tin tin french.

The Telegraph reviewer gave it a very mixed rating. Beautifully filmed, and masterful use of 3D, but almost no plot. Although it's billed as a children's film, children will be bored rigid. Adults in the right mood might be charmed, especially by the clips from classic silent films.

The fact it's over two hours long put me off going to see it. I'd fall asleep....

I've seen it and I thought it was a gorgeous film, almost a documentary in some respects (it's partly about how the history of magic influenced the medium of film shortly after the invention of motion pictures) and was one of those movies where there are no bad people. Everyone has a sensible motivation, and is revealed to just be doing what they think to be right by the end of the story, I like stories like that. Maybe I'm an idealist.

Beautiful film. Wonderful plot, amazingly filmed. A real fairy story. Film of the year imho, although I think Ali G was miscast and the little boy wasn't all that.

don't get me wrong its a lovely film, very watchable......... but by the way it is advertised its like going to see starwars and ending up seeing the life story of the e-woks so again worth watching, well thought out story line but more famouse five action instead of fantasy robotic flying sequences as advertised.

Didn't see the advert, just saw a thread on another magic forum where a lot of people were saying it was very magical and great.

Scorsese can do wrong in my eyes anyway!

I found this movie excellent, I recommend it to all steampunk world lovers.

I find you very hard with the movie, the direction is good, the acting is good.
I understand that it's a bit too "all audience" for some people but it's necessary to introduce new people to our world.

For steampunk universe lovers I would recommend you to watch these other films.
