Notice I say "leaders" rather than "committee".
Magic clubs seem to have a lot of "older" members, (and I'm nearly knocking on the door of 50...) who seem to think they have a right to their voice just because of their age and "experience". Ego gets in the way and they do what suits them, not the membership.
Saying that, I have seen a couple of clubs that have really grown since getting their act together, and organising around what people actually find valuable rather than what the committee wanted.

You hit the nail on the head with that one. Ego is the biggest problem. Of course that is the problem when you put any group of entertainers together.

I have to say that my experience in my current club is brilliant. Very friendly. Easy to get involved. Egos and politics don't seem to be much in evidence. A nice mix of younger and older, pro and amateur. It's not perfect, but I really appreciate it.

Come along if you're in the Farnham/Farnborough/Surrey/Hampshire area...
