What a great night!
I met Alfred shortly after six so we had a quick drink before heading into the indigo for the show we believed started at 7. We found our seats and unfortunately they were right up in the Gods (just near the bar where you were, Mandrake.)
Alfred and I discussed the art of blagging and how much we both enjoyed it so Alfred played the “I’ve not got my contacts in” card and we were moved downstairs to the third-from-front row.

We then discovered that P&T weren’t onstage until 8 so we got stamped out and went back to a bar in the O2. Sadly, Bryan Adams was playing at the main O2 arena so we had to endure his greatest hits whilst we waited. Unperturbed, however, we drank the bar’s most expensive Bourbon on the rocks whilst chatting to the friendly and beautiful barmaids between our own conversation about life, magic and all sorts.
Five to eight came and we headed back into the indigo for the show.
The house lights went down and Penn & Teller were introduced. During the introduction I turned to Alfred and said, “That’s Paul Daniels’ voice!”.
Penn and Teller opened with their knife in hand routine, which you will no doubt have seen on Fool Us.
As the props were removed, Paul Daniels was introduced and the three men took up a comfy armchair each centre stage.
Mr. Daniels proceeded with a nice interview of P&T, starting by asking Teller if he was going to be speaking. Teller replied, “F*** Yeah!”.
The conversation gave a great insight into how Penn and Teller had met, their working relationship etc. and it was great to hear, as Mandrake pointed out, that Penn doesn’t get involved too heavily in what Teller is doing magically.
The guys then did their famous version of the cups and balls routine, which was as entertaining and effortless as always.
Following this, the audience were invited to ask some questions. I was fortunate enough to ask a question and asked what the most beautiful or jaw-dropping trick was they had ever seen was. They replied that it was Paul Daniels’ chop cup routine.
After the show both Penn and Teller hung around outside and signed autographs and had photos taken with EVERY single person who wanted to.
After having my photo taken with Penn, Teller, Paul & Debbie, Alfred and I went back for a final double bourbon before heading home for the night.
My score: 9/10.Only because I would have liked another half hour or so.
