The Asher Twist

Postby CArlight1958 » Dec 9th, '11, 12:39

I'm trying to master the "Asher Twist"

My question is.

I'm right handed. So I hold the deck in my left hand for normal card tricks.

Does the "Asher twist" require me to hold the deck in my right hand, Or
can the same effect be done using either hand?

Thanks.

as with a lot of sleights it can be done in either hand

but you may find it easier to hold the pack in your right hand

I do

Thanks J,

With a little practice I'm sure I will get this down,& have it looking pretty good.
Seem easier holding the cards in the left hand though.
I thought maybe there was a reason for having the pack in the opposite hand.

PS. Knocks the S--T out of the cards though, or is that just my rough handling... :D

Like many right handers I hold the deck in my left for most tricks.

but for this particular move, because the 'work' is done with the same hand the pack is held in and because the dexterity in my left hand is not as good I tend to hold the pack in my right hand.

This could just be me though.

I usually try to learn sleights with both hands but I guess it depends on how determined I am at the time and how much I will use the move.

For example my 'Hot Shot Cut' (Daryl) is better with my left but I practised it for ages with both hands.

RE: rough handling - maybe but that should sort itself with lots of practise

had same thing with Hot Shot Cut, I didn't think my hands were big enough and I was bending up cards (and throwing them across the room in temper)
lots of practise and I can now do it with both hands at the same time with my eyes closed (really, I can) but that is not because I am especially dextrous, I was just adament to get it down and put the practise in.

It's a shame you didn't look to buy this from Lee in 2006:

In 2006, in an unprecedented move, close-up performer Lee Asher announced that he will be sending his Asher Twist DVDs out free of charge. Free? Well, yes, but in exchange for Magic Makers' Ghost Kings DVDs; a product that Asher says was an inferior result of the theft of his original idea.

It all began in 2003 when Asher was approached by Magic Makers asking to purchase the rights to his Four-Ace routine that originally appeared in print ten years earlier. Asher declined, but in December of that year Ghost Kings, a suspiciously Asher Twist-ish looking routine with four Kings, appeared on the market in Europe, and then eventually went worldwide.

Lee hopes that his trade-in program will pave the way for other performers and marketers who find themselves in the same position of having their inventions ripped-off. Asher says that he has spoken to the CEO of Magic Makers about this, and that they both decided it's water under the bridge. But, Lee continues, initiating action to educate the masses, and at the same time recall the entire unauthorized product from the market, is something all creators can do. It's just a question of how far you're willing to go.
