Tommy Cooper Documentary

Postby Karma » Dec 28th, '11, 17:33

There is a documentary on channel 4 tonight 28/12/2011 in the UK about the late great Tommy Cooper.
I absolutely love comedy magic and Tommy Cooper was King of Comedy magic so I'll be watching this one for sure. :D

What did you think of it?

I enjoyed it, although like many great comics Tommy had a lot of personal demons to battle.

I never knew about his very strained relationship with his agent, very interesting.

I was only about 15 when he actually died, I remember watching the show at the time, very sad, his best days had long gone at that time.
The fact we still talk about and watch his shows today is a great tribute to him. I even noticed a book in Smiths the other day with some of his best/worst jokes!

Also was great to see the old footage as it showed The Wellington Pier from my home town Great Yarmouth, not sure what year it was though.

John Fisher's book, Tommy Cooper: Always Leave Them Laughing: The Definitive Biography of a Comedy Legend, is available in paperback and Kindle format from Amazon and it's a superb read. The Works sometimes have copies of the paperback, well worth the money to learn more about Tommy, his demons, his bad health and his genius.

My fav bookshop, go in with a tenner and you won't be able to carry your stuff out!

I really enjoyed the programme and the Producer got the tone spot on, clips of TC clowning around and then the more serious/darker side of things

Are you watching closely? Then I'll begin...

I enjoyed it, I've always been a big fan. I didn't know about his problems with the drink so I learned something too.
