4 Card Control

Postby MagicGuyDave » Jan 1st, '12, 23:43

Hello,
Just joined the forum to pick up some great hints and tips.
I was creating a new trick the other day, when I sort of ran into a brick wall.
What I need to do is supposedly lose 4 random cards chosen by the spectator(s) into the deck at seemingly random spots, but then control all 4 cards to the top or bottom without the spectators(s) seeing.
Does anyone have any methods or tips that would aim be on this task?
Many Thanks and any help is highly appreciated!
Best Regards,
~David ♠

overhand shuffle is probably the easiest.
i personaly use dai vernons multiple shift which i leant from derren browns DVD so I'm not sure where it was originally published.
thirdly, Guy Hollingworth has a bit in the 'interval' chapter of his book 'drawing room deceptions' (which i was just reading last night coincidentally) on this subject, which looks really clever to me, although i havent tried it just yet

I was thinking of the Dai Vernon Shift too while reading the post. There is also a control by Paul Wilson which I believe is on the instant download section of the Dan and Dave store which is a very good control. From what I gather it's a fairly cheap video so might be worth a look.

In The Royal Road to Card Magic it explains how to use the hindu shuffle to control several cards to the top. I agree with hds02115's and magicarp's comment about the Dai Vernon shift, it's a great move but it takes a bit of practice so maybe the hindu shuffle control might be a bit easier for a beginner perhaps.

Paul Harris uses a multiple shift in his 'Vacuum Cleaner Cards', I'm not sure if he invented this particular shift but it can be adapted to a full deck shift as opposed to the half deck he uses in the routine and it is fairly easy to perform.

The Elias Multiple Shift is my personal favourite. Cards inserted into the deck, pushed in and squared. You give a single swing cut and they are on top.

Is the Vernon multiple shift the one used in The Travellers? If not, that is a good option. Easy too.
