Looking for a sleight please help

Postby bobsagget » Jan 8th, '12, 08:26

I'm looking for the name of a sleight or a place where I can find a name of a sleight that secretly turns a card upside down. Let's say that i conrol a card to the top...or the bottom where ever needed, how can i get it to go upside down. Any help is greatly aprriciated thanks.

P.S.
I'm new at this forum and i was wondering if some one could tell me what's required to gain access to the restricted areas. Again thanks!

Regarding the first question.

I'm not exactly a cardist but if I wanted to surreptitiously turn a card upside down I'd control it to the top (you presumably already know a good control) , palm it off (almost any card magic book will teach this), shuffle the deck depositing palmed card on the bottom (now upside down) and cut the deck (often done after a shuffle anyway).
Just watch your angles when holding the card.

There's probably a more direct way but then I don't really do cards.

I use a simple misdirection, to turn a bottom card upside down. I lower the cards talk & just turn it.

Plenty of methods for reversing cards in The Royal Road to Card Magic. If you are interested in card magic it's a good place to start.

Take deck, hold in left hand and let the arm hang naturally at your side, push off top card, reverse it against your left leg.

"The Pants Leg Reversal" I believe it's called

Is pretty much how I'd do it too.

Sure there's a section in RRTCM too

Custom R&S decks made to specification - PM me for details

One of my favorite and most used card reversals is by Jim Steranko called the Action Reversal, or something of that nature, it happens during a riffle shuffle and if so deceptive and easy.

It's published in his book Steranko on Cards.

Just about any basic book in magic will give you a method for this. And for sure any basic or beginner book in card magic will give you several methods for this.

I'd go with Mark Wilson's Course in Magic
Or Royal Road To Card Magic.

I am assuming you don't have either because if you did you wouldn't be asking the question. Both books are worth the small investment.

i usually go for the 'pants leg reversal'. But i only use that as a utility move really for waving the aces or ambitious card. The only card reversal i do regularly is triumph, which is a mighty fine effect, but (and no offense at all intended!) i think you'll need a bit more time before you are up to it.
The way i used to do it when i just had a selected card end up reversed was to have the spec select a card and then control it to second from top. turn over top card on top of deck, pick up top two cards as one, use this packet to flip over third card (now on top of deck) look confused that neither of the cards shown are their card and turn the whole packet face down onto the deck. cut and spread. It explained in much more detail and with diagrams in the royal road. Go buy it, its a bargain!

alternative: get break below top card, cut half of deck from bottom, turn upsidedown showing the bottom card, put on top. Pull out the rest of the deck below the break, show face and replace back underneath (or place on top then do a fair cut). look confused that none of the cards shown are their card, then reveal.

if people think this is too much exposure i'll edit it down pronto, seems okay to me though, its not giving away any 'moves' particularly.

I'd definatly agree that if you haven't got the basic books then you should as these will have a various options for you, Royal Road, Expert Card Technique, ect...
