Love steampunk, but the cards would just get thrown into my bag of other playing cards that I've bought in the past and never used. Therefore I have shown great restraint and have not ordered. A pack of steampunk tarot cards however, that would be something else entirely...

You'll just have to wait until May (assuming no delays): http://www.amazon.co.uk/Steampunk-Tarot ... 0738726389

I have "pre-ordered with one click"! These look wonderful. I hope they do see the light of day sometime soon - sometimes these projects can drag on for eons.

Here's my randon thoughts on the subject.

Like a few of us on here, I've a few (4,5... maybe 6) of these decks kicking around and never used... Sometimes a deck comes along that's really nice and irresistable! I spend quite a lot of time playing with cards so why not get a nice looking deck? Then they just sit there unused! I really should learn...

The props that we use are important, and project an image wether we like it or not, so I can understand why some of these decks are attractive. My ID is made from Karnival midnights and looks good, and I have strange travellers in a deck of the same. Seems to work, as if I do either of these tricks it tends to be just a one on one performance and just of the one trick, so I don't have to worry about switching decks, plusbthey seem to fit the atmosphere of the efeects for me.

But as a rule, it's BLUE BIKES all the way for me. For me blue bikes look classy and anonymous at the same time. The people I am perfoming magic for can look at the magic and not go "Ooh! Pretty cards! Can I see them?" They just distract to much from the magic. Also, if I need a gimmicked card, it's certainly more likely it'll be available in a blue bike than a (insert favourite odd deck here).

So with the two above exceptions, all I use is blue bikes, and I love them. Simple and elegant.

(And for all that, I guess for Halloween alone, I'd finally get to use my Karnival Dose deck!)

I have a brick of Black Tigers I bought ages ages ago and am still trying to work through - I don't use them at gigs really.
I didn't like those steampunk ones, but I do like The Ghost Cards... they had a nice feel to them too.

Damn, those are lovely, I think I shall partake also. :D

After the disappointment of the Necronomicon tarot deck I was also recently ecstatic when I received the Dark Grimoire deck (confusingly also called the Necronomicon deck in other countries) which was everything the Necro deck should've been and wasn't.

They are beautiful cards, Barbara's got a blog here http://steampunktarot.wordpress.com/ where she's got some pictures of some of the cards.

That's not to say these custom decks don't have their place within a serious repetoire, because they do. I have a Karnival Dead Eyes deck (which was kindly donated to me by TalkMagic's second most handsome man) which works wonders with a good spooky psychic murder mystery night.

I must be a hoarder because I have way more than 40 Decks. They sit in the pretty little boxes they came in. In reality however I only use the basic bicycle cards. One of these days I'm going to gather all those decks and give them to a local guy who also collects cards. Ben Salinas actually.
