I didn't put my idea for Guess Who? down. Have a packet of the face cards and get three people to select one each. Note that this might not be an entirely free selection...

"I am really good at Guess Who? I can usually get it in only a few questions. (To first person) Is it a woman? (No) Does he have white hair? (Yes) Does he have blue eyes? (Yes) It's Paul. (To second person) Is it a woman? (Yes) Does she have glasses? (Yes) It's Claire. (To third person, after a slight pause) It's Philip."

I do like that idea for the guess who, would have to flesh it out a bit more, I'm hoping to have each trick to go from 3 to 6 mins. The allotted time for each "set" is 20 mins (25 maximum) and currently I do 4 to 5 tricks in that time. However I would like to mix and match the tricks up.

In my head I can see me coming out and doing a solid starter trick, then perhaps a "game" to choose what tricks they see from there. Then finishing up on a strong one. That way it will be fresh for me each time and also allow the regulars to see something new

Game ideas to choose which trick they see can either be a dice roll, or thinking about it now perhaps a paper fortune teller thing (you know the things that you put your fingers in and they choose a number, then choose a colour, then choose a number again)

Yeah if you could get a deck of cards printed with the guess who faces that'd make for some fantastic routines.

Thinking about the crystal maze thing, wasn't there a bit at the end about sorting tickets into gold and silver? Strikes me as a good opportunity for an OOTW style effect, or escaping from cards, Extreme Burn done with gold and silver wrapping paper!

When you say retro games, given the selection, I assume you mean retro board games, rather than video games?

You could play the middle eastern version of Guess Who. All the ladies are wearing burkas. you can only see their eyes.
I read somewhere about 'Guess Who' working as a prediction with various forces such as a PATEO choice.

Any dice game (ludo, snakes and ladders, monopoly, etc.) with a loaded or gimmicked dice ?
Any card tricks adapted to retro packs of cards (E.g. Happy Families cards)
Ker-plunk with steel marbles (and perhaps a hidden magnet or two ?) [not sure I thought that one through yet, but there must be some mileage in it]
Familiar electronic games that have been 'modified' to include a hidden wireless buzzer. (E.g. Operation, Buzz wire)

¿ sɹoɹɹıɯ ʎq ǝuop ןןɐ sʇı
"who? no I dont know him", Derren Brown
"no idea who he is !", Kenton Knepper
"Is he a magician ?", Penn&Teller

Mastermind (Not the chair, the game with the coloured pegs) should have a vaguely obvious use.
Hungry Hungry Hippos can have... uh... lots of spectators on stage?
Something with Connect 4... Uhh....

Im sure someone on this board posted a Monopoly PA for a prediction routine.

What about noughts and crosses, cards marked on the back or even esp cards using the circle and cross, maybe combined with a matrix style coin routine?

Dont' want to sound like I'm self-promoting or anything, but Nik Taylor has a wonderful routine based around the theme of childhood games called "Throw Six To Start" and it's in the third issue of the Mystic Menagerie.

No worries on self promoting, I have just bought it and am looking forward to having a read of the material.

I will have a look at the monopoly mindreading routine, hoping to be able to add my own (slightly twisted) humour to it (as i do with any of my routines)

I LOVE the idea of the middle eastern guess who as an intro to the trick,

I am happy to do video games but as i've stated earlier, they must mean something to the vast age range we get at the bar. The last thing i want to do is alienate some people because they have no idea what i am talking about.

There's always the old Noughts and Crosses prediction routine that you'll find in Mark Wilson's Complete Course? I've used that a few times,my variation I use has me blindfolded and the spec's move coded to me by an assistant but it's basically the same method and always goes down brilliantly.

Also, I've got a routine based around Monopoly in Mind Fluff as well as a prediction using a Where's Wally book in case you were interested.

Becareful that you don't offend with that. :D It could be very good if played out well or offensive if not.

Would love to hear more on those two routines, I'm obviously not asking for the workings, just a general over view of the tricks. If they sound right for me then I will happily buy your book.

That is very true, if I were to use it then it would just be as an off the cuff remark as I realise I brought out the wrong deck for the trick. I do have a few darker jokes in my normal routine but nothing that would offend anyone. My objective is to amuse and not to cause offence. Perhaps that would just be one that I pull out on rare occasions or with other magicians who know me and know my style.

Andy Clockwise has a routine using the board game Guess Who where he can instantly guess the face picked by the other player. He has been carrying it around with him for ages trying to sell it to someone so its best to contact him I think. Andy Clockwise from Harlow I think.

Thanks for that, I have emailed him so hopefully he will be able to explain what the trick entails
