get a card into a spectators pocket?

Postby oscarius4 » Feb 5th, '12, 01:43

I have just been thinking through a few crescendos for a trick I have been practicing recently and I was wondering how feasible it is that I could get the forced card into their trouser back pocket, or any pocket really, before the trick has started. Is there any special technique for this? A hug perhaps? don't wanna get accused of sexual assault either if possible ;)

I would give up on that idea! You could be accused of al sorts of things!

How about writing a card on a £5 note and using it to buy a drink in a pub then watching to see who gets it as change?

Ive done this and waited ages. When someone was given the note and they placed it in their wallet i approached them and asked if they would like to see some magic. I was met with a very curt NO! :D

When it works its a killer! I learned to inform the barman so that he would give your special note over as soon as possible.

Failing that, check out the UCCU/Any Signed Card to Any Spectators Wallet.

James Brown Professional opportunist DVD
James does some clever stuff with a folded card under someone's watch. Might be more appropriate.

We recently used this effect in a show; involved an assistant and an appropriate distraction. :)

I also think this would be the best way to go. It's a lot more practical (and therefore can be used more often), and there are quite a few people with their own versions (Pit hartling and Paul Harris in addition to James Brown), so you shouldn't have much of a problem finding a version that fits your particular skillset.

I have a routine whereby I put a signed card into a nominated pocket.....so yes, it can be done. Just uses a simple classic palm, and very specific routining!

You just need to think outside the box a bit, rather than trying to slip something in a pocket without them noticing right at the beginning of a routine.

Or you could what Juan Tamariz does and simply palm a card and during the course of patting them on the back during the meeting BEFORE you even perform, you simply load a card or two into their back pockets.

Do you need to put the card in their pocket ?
In the sameway that we produce a coin from someone's ear, you could palm a card and produce it as you 'remove' your hand from their pocket.

That could be cool. Like Bill Malones "and I don't even have a pocket!"

Several ideas

1. You need to look at how stage pick pocketing is done. As someone says--a distraction. If you put your hand on his right shoulder and at the same time loaded with the
left hand.
Most humans cannot concentrate on 2 happenings, at the same time.
Or ask him to place the deck in his inside pocket so you cannot touch it. At the same time as he pulls open his jacket..load.
Lean across his body--'Excuse me' -- as you place the deck on the table or hand it to someone else on the man's right . As you do so..load in his left.

2. Do the Knife Thru Coat. Now if the coat is being held by him--either with both his hands or on a hanger--well the pocket is right by you

I watched an episode of Derren brown mind control last night in which Derren stole everything a person was carrying and their tie. It was amazing but he had to man handle the participant so much that I think most people would object and tell you to get off of them. Derren was under the guise of a tv presenter and therefore able to manipulate people easy as hell, e.g, Micing someone up telling them where to stand. I suppose this could work with a magic trick in the same kind of way though?

As Allen said above, pickpocketing techniques are worth studying. On the DVD "Stealing The Show", James Freedman describes "put pocketing" which is pickpocketing in reverse. The same technique can be applied such as when you place a coin under someone's watch. It's a good DVD and may have the information you require.

Just remember DB is a famous TV personality--disguised or not. And with a TV camera there.
NEVER think that you can imitate what TV & TV fame can do.

Why not be safe and look at how a card--can be freely chosen & signed-- appears UNDER a spectator--who will have to sit down.
SEE Wayne Dobson's Lecture Notes and there is a good routine in Chris Carey's small 86 page book--' Do The Stuff That's You 2'
