Improv. Flash Paper

Postby hds02115 » Feb 15th, '12, 18:05

A quick call for help. I'm in need of some flash paper but I'm short on time. Normally I'm a little more prepared but I'm in need of it for tomorrow. I'm unfortunatly not near a shop and posting would arrive too late.

My question is this, effectivly what is flash paper? Would I have something that would react in the same way at my house or which would be brought at a more every day store?

no you would not have anything in the house that reacts in the same way as flash paper.

Unless you happen to be a terrorist.
Dont even think of making it yourself. Magic history is full of stories of homes being burnt down because of the processes used in making flash paper.

Damn, I was kind of hoping that there might be something like tissues that would react in a similar way. I'll see if I can find anyone to borrow from.

Thanks though.

If you seperate a tissue into one of the thin sheets, it burns pretty fast. Not as good as flash paper though.

Flash paper uses a special chemical that allows it to burn up in a flash. Tissue paper would just slowly burn away and look silly, like most have suggested, just either head to the local magic shop or buy it online. It's safer and easier that way.

Also isn't one of the special properties of flash paper that it leaves absolutely no residue? Like tissue would leave ash behind. That suggests to me that it isn't even paper, just a highly flammable chemical spun into woven fibres to look like paper, which is even more reason to just leave it to the professionals.

The stuff is stored damp to stop it just going off by accident.

I think the chemical is called [**dangerous sh1t** (and therefore edited by your friendly neighbourhood Moderator  )] There is some info about it online.

Although you may be able to locate information and instructions on-line, can I just point out that TalkMagic do NOT advise or condone any member attempt to manufacture their own flash products, and CANNOT accept any liability should any forum reader or member cause injury to their property, themselves or others, as a result of reading any topic of this nature on TalkMagic.

Also, if you choose to ignore calls not to mess with making your own, please do be aware that searching for the required components may well bring you to the attention of anti-terrorism authorities for all the wrong reasons (not that, y'know, there are any right reasons  )

Let's be careful out there, folks :|

Here's what you need to do. Contact some Libyans who would be willing to give you some Mr.Fusion. This should get your started on being able to make flash paper.

Just beware of what happened to the last guy who borrowed something from them. On 2nd thought, just go to the local magic shop or online shop and buy a packet or two.

Making flash paper is quite easy, using two strong acids (which I will not name here). However most of us do not have those acids in our homes, or have a handy source for them. The problem is that the manufacture takes a few days. You cannot make it in a hurry. Sorry.

Also (and I am open to correction on this) I believe that flash paper explodes four times quicker than gun powder, making it quite fun stuff, but a wee bit dangerous.

Just to repeat what people have said before, please don't mess around with making your own flash paper. The propper stuff can be very dangerous even if you know what you're doing with it, it really isn't worth the risk playing with home made paper.
