20 years too late!

Hey.
How you all doing?
Big hello from Coventry . Please let me introduce myself. Jester Styles , nice to meet you. As a child I was amazed by magic and wanted to learn it all. Sadly my Dyspraxia meant I was too clumsy to be any good and my dyslexia meant I couldn’t read the complicated books.
I ended up giving up...I was so annoyed that I ignored magic, I refused to even watch it on the Tv. I was so annoyed that I wasn't smart enough to do it.

Now I’m 28 and I’ve realised I should just go for it. I may be clumsy and I’ve left it far too late to ever master it, but I’m going to give it my best shot and practise my ass off to get my childhood dream back.
So armed with a deck of Bicycle cards I’m started my journey.

My big dream at the moment is to get good enough to A) Host Children's Party's and B) Perform Close up for adults.

Hi and welcome! Try integrating any clumsiness into your performing style - we've all seen clips of Tommy Cooper showing one way it can be done but you're bound to to be able to develop your own style. Best of luck!

Thank you!

Im currently trying to find my own style - There is just so much, and so many things trying to take your money!

Ive got a few self working tricks down, and i've got the double undercut looking smooth. I've started learning the classic pass but that's going to take a while!

Knowing the double undercut, means I can pull a signed/selected card from the deck back to the top, mixed in with a few false shuffles and I start to look like I know what I'm doing.
Ive so far avoided, though mostly due to lack of budget buying to much stuff. I do own the "Trick cyclist" and I love the effect, its just not getting to nervous and messing it up - so far ive attempted this trick in front of my girlfriend twice and have messed it up twice.

Ive got good at the This, That , Other trick - again, same problem, I get nervous I mess it up.

I do intend to stick with it though and get past the nerves.

One of the things thats really caught my eye is sponge balls, The reaction people get from them is great, People are actually amazed.

Absolutely, and at first you want to buy everything but you soon learn that many don't live up to the expectations and you start to get more fussy about what you spend your money on.

I get nervous I mess it up.

almost everyone goes through the same thing but the more you practice the more confident you become. try not to take it to serious, It's not the end of the world if you mess up, just make a joke about it. Keep us informed of you progress

Not sure if you've seen the post at sutra431239.php#p431239, lectures like that are a great confidence builder.

I'm hoping this is a good thing, Jester, and they're not all lying dead in a gutter, somewhere?

Please expand, bro - what was the best part? Their best reaction?

as a fellow dyspraxic feel free to pm / e-mail me if i can be of any help too you. :D
not being good with cards i found a stripper deck took all the load off and allowed me to build my character and performing skills, coin tricks like hopping halfs and scotch n sodas and lately split coins have also helped my coin work.

Sadly it means I fluffed the two tricks i wanted to show off. I miss counted on one, and lost a card in the deck on the other.

Thank you very much.
My three main issues at the moment are:
Nerves
Not knowing what direction I want to go
Not knowing ho to get the best out of my practise time.

Any advice on that would be great, I have a stripper deck but don't get on with it very well

It would be good to know to know your condition a little better. How serious is the dyspraxia? Can you drive a car?
