I received the following email this morning....

Hi There,

I saw on talkmagic that you have From the notebooks by Luke Jermay. Would you be interested in selling it is as I know it is a pdf and easy to email over?

Where do I begin? I'm actually in a state of disbelief. I haven't replied yet and have thought about explaining how such an act is unethical not to mention morally questionable but think that somehow it will fall on deaf ears.

That's the big trouble with PDFs, they are very very easy to pirate and/or pass around, at least with a physical book you are actaully selling something tangiable.

I suppose it's a good sign that he's asking to buy it rather than expecting a free copy! However as this is easily available from Lebanon Circle at £30 I guess Duncan is looking to pay a lower figure. If you take him to task over it you might end up with some nasty emails and spam arriving so, if you feel you have to reply, just decline the offer - to accept under any circumstance would mean that you're copying and distributing copyright material. Are those PDFs indvidually marked to register the original purchaser's details?

I got a request like this once, and it made me very uncomfortable. Eventually I sent back a non-committal reply and never did a deal with the guy.
