a question about a magic I saw

Postby giligen » Apr 26th, '12, 09:41

HI guys,

I saw a magic done by a mentalist...He touched a person's hand and another person on the stage felt his touch exactly where the first person was touched.

Of course I am not asking you to reveal the magic, but I would like to know if the trick here is based on a high technology feature, or it demands some skills.

Thank you very much

G.

It's probably the effect known as Psychokinetic Touches by Banachek and, if so, it doesn't use any high tech stuff, only great skill, talent and showmanship!

Welcome to tm.

If this is the one I think then DB also performs it with the dancers in one of his tv shows. He doesn't even touch the second person. Great effect and yes it is showmanship and presentation that make it. The method is relatively simple though.

Good job Google and all other search engines are broken...

Anyway, there are multiple ways of doing this sort of thing. At least one of them involves high technology. At least one method involves no technology or gimmickry at all.

Well shows how much I know, I thought it used hypnosis to hypnotise all the audience so you became invisible and then could nip across the stage and touch the other persons hand!

It always hits an audience hard. And you only need--2 spectators (Banachek's version) and a chair. I used a stool.
No preparation.
I used to like to use soft music in the background.

Banachek's patter story is a bit long I always felt. Made up my own based on things that had happened to me as my Auntie Gertie (family pet name for her) always used to tap me on the shoulder--usually on the left as she stood on the right and I always swung the wrong way to catch her.
Why Auntie Gertie? Well apart from the above she bought me my first book with a long magic chapter in it--still have it--and my first box of flash paper

I did alter the 'cleansing the aura' gestures that Banachek used.
I made it more natural and easier.

I believe that it was used long before him by at least one famous UK hypnotist. Peter Casson.

I own and love Banachek's version, but I know that there are several other version which I would like to study. Suggestions?

Yep, that's the one they have all been talking about in this thread: "Psychokinetic Touches by Banachek"

Giligen: Voodoo : The first part: girl feels taps on the back is the Banachek Psy. Touches. Tom Berry does it far too quickly and in my opinion--not very well !

The 2nd part is I believe the old cigarette that rolls across the table. Exposed in many a book on sale to the General Public.
His cleverness is--utilising the same principle for a completely different effect.

ANOTHER instance of Psych. Touches is in Luke Jermay's book --The Coral Fang. Luke also published this in Stan Allen's 'Magic Magazine' ( I think in 2005)with a couple of his other effects.
It is titled-- 'Touching On Hoy'.
I have found this very effective. Baffled a group of magicians with it as well. hee hee!

3 volunteers are sat on a chair each. They close their eyes.
The magician asks, when he touches their backs- one to think of a name--another a memorable date and a 3rd a simple design.
He then asks them to stand & leave the stage if he is correct after he has named the 3 thoughts. Having written the 3 thoughts down on a large clipboard for all the audience to see, he reads them out.
They all leave the stage!
Applause.

No stooges. Just a clipboard, 3 chairs and 3 spectators.
OH and a magician who has effective Showmanship.

Banachek's actually got two versions, the Psych. Touches that he published is nice but he's also got a slightly different version that I saw him perform on TV which really is lovely. Although that one really is only a stage effect and isn't goingto work too well with small groups.

There's also a verson on the Loops DVD which I've used a fair few times and I think works really nicely.
