My First Performance

Postby Roland » Dec 18th, '04, 14:07

Well I just thought I'd tell everyone about my first performance.

It was last night at my company Christmas party in front of about 15 people. I did 20 minutes of mentalism tricks.

I should point out that I do not intend to be a performing magician as my interest in Magic is more about psycology.

Anyway I read up on a few things that were more performance based, bought a couple of tricks and went for it.

I started off with some simple forces, predicting what object people would choose etc and also a good Andy Nyman trick where you predict a film and video membership number.

I then did a padlock trick which involved a few people each with a key.

My finale was getting everyone to think of a number, forcing what number it was, getting the number wrong on purpose and then proving that I knew the correct number all the time using a few examples including a magic square (thankyou Derren).

The show went well, but it was a kind audience. What is interesting is that I am obviously still concentrating on the mechanics of just getting through each trick. I was sure people were seeing that my misdirection wasn't good enough but in talking to them afterwards they didn't.

With the exception of two people who knew about magic anyway, no one had a clue how anything was done.

I know I have got a lot to learn but this is just to show that if you are not sure if you are ready to perform, just go for it, it was fun!

Congratulations!!

There's nothing quite like just getting out there and doing it!
And if you realise that you have a lot to learn (as we all do) then you can only improve.

I just hope you got a great buzz from entertaining with magic.

Nothing quite like it.......
