Sup guys?

Postby raistenique » Jun 19th, '12, 16:56

Hi guys.My name is Ivo,Im 21 and Im Portuguese.

Last year, around late November,I was watching some funny random videos on Youtube (the kind you watch when u have absolutely nothin to do) and god only knows how,I ended up watching a Ricky Jays performance.I was never really interested in magic cos I never actually had any decent contact with it,but nonetheless,I gave it a chance cos I really had NOTHING to do...

First thing I noticed were his showmanship abilities. What a performer...His voice, the choice of words, his calm, his tone, his diction, his presence...Man,he was good. No,Im sorry. He was GREAT.Trick after trick,I got more and more involved. He was performing magic as I never have seen anyone perform till then.It was a whole new world I was discovering over the course of that 60ish minutes. After an hour of performance (that looked like ten minutes to me),I got interested in his card control and flourish abilities.

Here in Portugal we have an ancient card game called Sueca wich is really popular, almost everyone plays it.The basics are:two teams of two players, one team shuffles and cuts, the other team deals.I searched youtube for some card flourishes and controls wich I could apply to the game.Man,was I rulling the game with my false shuffles and cuts :) People were getting impressed with my one handed cuts and I started to feel the impulse to learn more and more.I bought my first ever Bicycle deck, but my college duties spoke higher (im an architecture student) and the interest faded, cos I virtually had no time to invest in magic.

Recently, I was again borowsing Youtube and ended up watching someones performance of the Ambitious Card routine. It was a great performance.I was hooked.Ive started to learn the classic pass. I bought more decks and the interest is now bigger than ever and I fel the need to find some information resource and found this forum. It was just what I was looking for.

So here I am,making my presentation to the community.Cheers!!
