No, I disagree. If it's a fun vid to show off a little magic then yeah, shout outs are great. If it's a showreel the only name you want people to remember is your own. The only exception to this is if you can quote someone more famous than you as a recommendation.

Think of it as a commercial for your performance. You wouldn't get an advert for... I dunno, lets say crisps, where they tale the time to say "thanks to Bob Thingy for helping us get the mixing machines running 10% more efficiently" no, the only names you see are the names of the product and whatever celebutante of the moment is pretending to enjoy them for a fee of a small fortune.

PS and remember kids, winners don't do drugs; they eat crisps.

Unless it's sport in which case they do any chemical the current testing technology won't detect.

A showreel? So the elusive performer of the pier will actually be showing himself performing finally?

Alfred, would you turn down the opportunity to record yourself performing to random people in the street for free, no me either, hence the showreel, and if it isn't as good as i expect it to be, then i can at least be happy in the knowledge that i tried!! But as i am a quick learner and pick things up relatively quickly i feel i have more than enough effects for the showreel and lucky for me i am a people person and have yet to recieve any negative comments, i truly believe that 90% of my magic is the interaction with spectators and 5% effect....(maths never was my strong point)

Understandably there will be some people here who will always be negative, but i am fortunate enough to have friends in careers that support and further my career as a magician and will help me on my way to being the next big thing, and i can promise you all i will make it, i am that determined, and as i have learned from other threads even Dynamo has his doubters and naysayers who feel he does nothing for magic etc. and I'm sure they will all come out of the woodwork when i have my own following too, but celebrity comes with a price and I am slowly learning you cannot please everybody (especially when it comes to other magicians!!) but oh well..I'm doing what i love and am happy with that.

And yes T0M you will finally be able to see me performing, thank you for being my number one fan and following me with such dedication, it's nice to have a fan! you never know, i might even throw you a few signed decks to put on ebay when I'm rich and famous and you can have dinner on me for your unwaivering loyalty!!

Much love

Why the need for all the negative attitudes? Aza's getting out there and performing which is something that many never have the courage to do. I say well done and good luck to him.

Stacy,

If it pays the bills and is good enough for Gary Lineker, it's good enough for me!!

And thanks for the support Becky, it is appreciated and i understand the negativity, i am still not yet a "real magician" in the eyes of many, but neither is Dynamo and he's sunning it up in LA, and i know where i'd rather be!!

Anyway this topic has been hugely derailed as per usual

Think i'll be utilising my purchased effects on film and if asked to remove them i will and with regard to the credits, there will be people mentioned as inspiration and co-creators, but as per Stacy's advice it will be a minimum, the one's who get a mention know who they are

Much love

There's a fine old British saying which goes something like Illegitimi non carborundum - very true in any form of showbiz and especially in magic!

Don't miss any opportunities to perform, make sure you're ready to perform whichever effects you plan on doing, ensure you keep control and don't let the audience or whoever hires you dictate what you should do. They might have a point if they don't want effects involving fire or smoke but it's should be your choice of effects and don't be afraid to change or drop things, be equally ready to try new stuff to keep the act fresh. If you can include some good and complimentary mention of the location, the people hiring you or whatever then they're likely to be well chuffed.

I managed to avoid school Latin like the plague but if anyone's struggling, just put the phrase into Google or Wikki and all will become clear  !
