Not magic related

Postby Aza » Jul 31st, '12, 00:59

Hi all,

I would like to apologise for a few of my previous posts, when i said i felt i encountered an elitist attitude from certain members of TM.

I retract this statement and have had some time to re-read and digest my older posts.

I have been loved and cared for and nurtured by the vast majority of members here, and i think i felt like i had to prove myself as a proficient magician after meeting some less likable magicians in the real world, who looked down on such a young keen and eager student of magic.

I am a fast learner and can perform proficiently to pretty much anybody who wants to watch, i recently wrote down a list of things i can perform and to which standard and honestly graded myself in preparation for my showreel.

Grading from almost perfect (as it can always improve) to DO NOT PERFORM IN PUBLIC!

There are around 40 effects in my repertoire of which half are almost perfect, but they are mainly card effects and around 5 or 6 are rated DO NOT PERFORM IN PUBLIC.

I rarely rely on gimmicks, but there will be a few additions soon.

At the end of this rambling post, i want to thank you all for your kindness and help and want to promise you all this is my first step toward a long successful career in magic and i will be the next big thing discussed around the water cooler in workplaces around the world. And i promise none of you will be forgotten for helping me on my journey!!

I am determined and dedicated to the art and will be performing for the rest of my life.

Thanks for taking the time to read this

Much love

Aza

I'm shure we all hope you make it, most top magicians if there realy honest will tell you that they have only 4 - 5 effects they do realy well the rest is for tv, you know the stuff that only works from one camera angle.
through practise you'll find your signature effects and they will be the ones that perfect themselves, feel free to dive into many tricks, knoledge they say is power and practise makes perfect but don't try to master every type of trick and style, the real secret is performing also don't worry about each move being perfect aslong as it feels right then it is right, my classic palm is horrible and hamfisted, but because I'm comftable with it, no one sees it, except other magicians who don't count. :D
most important is to have fun with it, its all tooo easy for it to become a chore a meens to an end to for fame and money, try not to fall into that trap, if your doing a card change, belive your doing it and let the method take care of itself, hope this helps you become more paul daniels than david blaine, both great magicians but who do you think still looks in the mirror and says "who can I put a smile on today"...... not a lot. :D

I've got 6 effects that I perform bit I think that it takes a while to get to that point. I think the best thing to do to start is to learn as much as possible and then over time you'll probably naturally refine what you do down to you best few effects.
