Just got back from watching Jerrys show at the Soho Theatre in London. Great performance, typical Sadowitz material! Seemed to be more comedy than actual magic, however isnt laughter an easy misdirection? Jerry perfomed some great effects including "Triumph" with a thought of selection, Ambitious card routine (which i take my hat off to Jerrys pass!), some of his own style of mentalism (hehehe!) and more. Jerry ended with a selected card ending up inside a grapefruit, after many attempts to find it!
I had a strange feeling he would be there, but still to my surprise I bumped into the "fantastic" Derren Brown, who unfortunatly was not there for the show. He shook my hand and was friendly as ever and hoped i would enjoy the show.
Anyway highly recommended show to anyone who can get there.
Anyone else who was there?

the "named card triumph" effect can be found in his book "Cards on the table"... a very clever man is Mr Sadowitz

hmm, i went to the last show and it was about a 30-40 minute show, and he didn't do any card to grapefruit or name a card triumph
he did the cups & balls, color monte, twisted sisters, a slop shuffle triumph routine, a 3 card selection effect, a spelling effect which is his own creation...
wasn't sure if he ended it early coz he was annoyed at a few guys at the front row who kept talking and interrupting him..
He took the guy's beer and poured it onto his face actually...

but it was a great show....his jokes are great..

Never seen him live, but I would probably be on the front row with my 'We're not worthy' t-shirt on.

In fact, if Juan Tamariz and Jerry Sadowitz were women, I'd have their nudey calendars pinned up on my wall.

:O Not quite sure what I meant by that really.

Both of them are in my book, influential. Watching either perform is a joy. They both perform fluently and comfortably. I especially enjoy Jerry's sense of humour, even though he's drier than a Jacobs cracker.

Odd how most consider him a comedian foremost, whereas members of the magic fraternity can't deny he's a magic genius.

I have him pencilled on my calendar as 'JUNE06, BRISTOL'... I will have to decipher what this means!

Don't make yourself known to Jerry as a magician of you go to his shows. The advertising for his last couple has usually stated:

'Strictly no admittance to children... or magicians'

And he means it.

I have heard of him not starting a show if he knew a pro was there, and asking them to leave the theatre.

I admire his skills... he's a brilliant magician, but he is also self-destructive, as you'll know from reading other posts from me on here.

Anonymous said he takes the expletives too far to get bookings, but I think this has been detrimental to his career on the whole.

I'd recommend anyone (over 18) seeing him perform. Go with a broad mind and be prepared to be amazed at his superb handling...

...just don't mention you're a magician too.

I saw he is perfomring in my local Theatre in Cumbernauld, and I got excited.

Until i read the notice

NO CHILDREN OR MAGICIANS.... ANY FOUND IN THE AUDIENCE WILL BE THROWN OUT AND BEATEN TO A PULP

I thought this was a joke until I read:

Strictly over 18s only

:(

Having seen Mr. Sadowitz do his shows in the past, he really is not suitable for under 18's whatsoever, however unless you are Michael Ammar, Daryl or another well known magician, I doubt very much if you will be recognised in the audience by Jerry.

Thats unless you are a magician that he has had a run in with at some point, so that will be most of us then!

Joking apart, if you get the oportunity to see him, then do. Its great to see Jerry do some very complex stuff, and I actually took a few presentational tips away from his shows. (Odd but true!)

Be careful with Sadowitz

Postby Uncle Marvin » Jan 22nd, '06, 20:10

Forgive me, but I would exercise extreme caution with Jerry Sadowitz.

My wife and I were in the beautiful city of Edinburgh last August. I saw that Mr Sadowitz was performing at a venue called the Queen's Hall. Having never seen the chap, and knowing he was a respected close-up magician, I booked tickets for my wife and I.

The venue was not exactly brilliant. My wife and I stood at the back. Mr Sadowitz walked on stage. He had scruffy long hair and a strong Glaswegian accent, something I certainly was not expecting. If his appearance was not bad enough, my wife and I then listened to twenty minutes or so of the most appalling cursing and humour before walking out. We saw no magic. We later learned that we paid to see his stand-up comedy turn, and not his magic show, but if this was anything to go by I would respectfully advise caution. He was not the most charming of chaps.

David Nixon he was not.

Ok, you said he looked scruffy, swore and spoke in a strong Glaswegian accent, and the venue was crappy

The Cumbernauld Theatre maybe isn't the best place in the world, but its good for a small theatre (I did a couple of shows in the large auditorium when I was 8 or 9 )

He spoke in a strong accent. Well, do you expect everybody to speak with the exact same accent as you? I found this comment quite strange and annoying, as you are trying to say he was bad because of his accent :?

You booked yourself into the wrong show, you can't blame the man for that.

His humour wasn't to your taste, but from the other comments here it sounds as if he was quite good

Rant over and out

Edit: Oh, and you didn't like him because he had long hair. Strange......
