Bricks & Mortar Magic Shop Directory

Postby Aza » Aug 3rd, '12, 00:05

Guys,

I wonder if we could compile a list of UK magic shops with perhaps a similar format to the reviews section so for example:

London

Shop Name & Address

Davenports
7 Charing Cross Underground Arcade,
The Strand, London,
WC2N 4HZ
Phone: 020 7836 0408

Customer Service Rating

How easy is it to find?

1-Simple 2- Not bad 3 - Take a map 4 - Good luck 5 - I don't believe it actually exists!

Product Selection

Overall Rating out of 5

Additional Comments

Scotland

Shop Name & Address

Tam Shepherd's Trick Shop
33 Queen Street
Glasgow
G1 3EF
Phone: 0141 221 2310

Ran by Roy Walton

Product Selection

Good stock of both old a new tricks

Customer Service Rating

all staff very helpful.

Aquarius
- 8 Tower Street -
King's Lynn
Norfolk - PE30 1EJ GB
Telephone: 01553 768911
Fax:
E-mail : aquariusmagic@tiscali.co.uk

I would think this could be a fantastic resource because try as i might i can't find a decent up to date list of actual magic shops that i can go visit

Any comments or feedback would be appreciated on this

Much love

Aza

a wile a go some kind sould developed an ovi map for your satnav with all the then locations of stores but due to the predominence of people going online and general lack of interest the updates tailed off.
also shops come and go on a regular bassis due to govenment / market forces so its difficult to keep something like that updated, but if you have the spare time give it a go. :)

Strikes me as a good thing to keep in one place as a sticky rather than individual threads. The original poster could update the first entry as new ones were submitted.

Sadly Aaron bricks and mortar magic shops are a dying trade these days. Apart from the one you listed, there is another shop in London were I always shopped when I was living in London, http://www.allinlondon.co.uk/directory/1300/7055.php" target="_blank There was another magic shop in covent gardens in central London but I'm sure its closed down now, but believe he has a market stall at the same location, so should not be hard to find?.. Sadly nothing near the coast were you live. But you will find the website to most magic shops/ sites. here http://www.magicweek.co.uk Regards Garry.

I do indeed have the time and inclination to make this list as comprehensive and fully up to date as possible!

If every respective member could put their local magic shops it would be appreciated!!

I'll edit the first post everytime!

Ooh cheers for that Garry, i still think that Bricks & Mortar should come back!!

Much love

If you check any of the posts by Bananafish you'll see one link to UK Magic Societies and another to UK Magic Shops - http://www.ipswichmagicalsociety.co.uk/linshopuk.htm - some of the details may be out of date but a phone call ahead of any visit will be a good idea.

I know for fact the Magic Castle has a published list of all magic merchants world wide, I'd be shocked if the Magic Circle didn't have the same sort of thing. Maybe asking one of these entities for that list would simplify things?

We might need to tread carefully here, at least one professional has compiled such a list and, quite rightly, is very protective of it. If it looks like anyone has copied those details verbatim then the legal eagles will be making contact very soon. As long as the layout, presentation and research can be shown to be all your own work then you should be fine.

Perhaps an additional method would be to ask each and every member to submit details of the bricks and mortar shops they know about, including full name, address, contact name if any, phone number, email address and website - if applicable.

As an example, a local one is:

Magic Tao
Unit B2 Castle Vale Ent. Park
Park Lane
Birmingham
B35 6LJ
West Midlands
United Kingdom
Contact: Costas Damianou
Telephone: 0121 748 3973
Email: Via contact form on website
http://www.magictao.co.uk/

I'd suggest that all those who are advertisers or supporters of TM in some way get a highlighted or preferential display of some sort.

Cheers for the comments, i think we obviously will be careful, currently i am hoping that local knowledge will build the list nicely.

So obviously if you frequent a shop in your area, let me know the name etc. and i will put the above format into practice.

Perhaps the 'official' listing could be transferred to The Library once it's starting to take shape.

M,

You're the boss :D so whatever/wherever you think....I'm compiling it in MS word, for ease of formatting, then will upload a final version....

Hope this is acceptable to all!!
