Close up bag

Postby Ed Wood » Aug 16th, '12, 10:45

I've just discovered I've lost my close up bag. I'm gutted, it took me years to find the perfect bag. Something small without a strap that can be held in one hand that didn't look like I was carrying a purse that could just hold a few small items to prevent bulging pockets in my suit.
Just bought a new one that I thought looked ok but once I have things in it the bag looks like a womans clutch bag and makes me look like a transvestite!
Anyone recommend a good small bag with enough room to hold a few small objects?

Considering your username, that's probably a given!

What about a small box made of light Wood--Ed?
No pun intended.
The size of the old cigar boxes. In fact an old cigar box, in great condition, would do nicely. The usual coloured paper on the box looks quite attractive and definitely-masculine. Years ago old actors used them as stage make up boxes.
Obviously you would have to attach something like two small bits of velcro to keep it closed in case you dropped it and the contents spilled out.

Or a smart camera case?

But a small leather Man bag--does it really matter these days if it even looks remotely like a ladies purse.
I bought 2 of these in a sort of leather ( brown & black) on Eastbourne Pier. Removed the SMALL strap and voila.

BUT avoid like the plague those ghastly waistcoats--popular--a few years back. One advertiser boasted his model had 32 pockets-!!Thirty Two pockets.
Can you imagine the magician saying-'Now here is a miracle with a deck of cards'--feeling in pocket 1--no cards then going through a dozen more!
It did strike me though --the 32 pockets would be a great idea for a 'Walk Around' dealer selling close up or packet tricks, to hold his stocks in!

I've just ordered a large camera case with a variety of pockets from Amazon. It looks perfect in the pictures.
I've seen those waistcoats, definitely not for me.
