Gosh Magic

Postby Paul Anthony » Sep 4th, '12, 08:38

Hi guys
Have had an e-mail this morning from Gosh Magic in China. The e-mail has Laurence's "TalkMagic" e-mail address attached to it. I haven't heard of Gosh magic (China) before.....Does anyone know of this supplier?

Please ignore those, they're just Spammers using a TM format to make them look valid. Laurence doesn't supply magic items these days so you can cheerily add the sender to your junk list.

Incidentally, we're getting far more spammers registering then at any time in TM's almost 10 year history - probably a reflection of the high ranking on Search Engines or something - and the Mods are removing and deleting them as quickly as we see them. On an average day something like 250 spammers register and ten or so make these stupid posts so there's a lot of work involved in weeding them out to make sure they don't spoil the fun and games here. If you see any of these on view, please ignore them, don't add a reply or response as that only means they've scored a live hit and encourages them to post more crud!

This sort of thing seems to be happening to me a lot. I have been getting e mails, addressed with my christian name and suppoisedly coming from my wife, her full name appears as the sender. When you get to the e mail address it is nothing to do with her, just a sales scam. I know this is a magic forum but if anyone knows how to stop this happening I would be very pleased to hear

On the MS Outlook system I had when I was at work, senders of these fake messages could be added to a 'Block List' folder which checked the real address before allowing it to appear in the In box. Not sure if the domestic versions or Hotmail systems can do this, might be something which requires purchase of an add on of some kind.

I'm not sure how effective it would be but if those of you who receive fake TM messages could PM me the actual email address of the sender, I'll add it to our 'Disallowed' list so they can't log in here under any other usernames etc.

One further point, genuine emails from Laurence and TM are few and far between, three or four in the last 10 years, usually to do with Forum matters or events, and they would be sent via the mass email function to everyone on the membership list, not to indviduals. We had problems with a registrant with the username of misstricks who was deleted a few weeks ago and I see that 'tricksmiss' registered overnight. Same spammer and also now deleted.

Indeed - at times there is a bit of confusion! Perhaps we should rename you each, something like LJ and LT :D ?

I too have received a number of these electronic correspondences from various unscrupulous traders from the Orient. They now find themselves quite magically transported to my folder of spam.
