Cutting a deck in half

Postby craigie » Sep 18th, '12, 22:35

Hi guys

I have got the Perfect faro shuffle down to a T using 2 packets of 26, only problem is when I am cutting the halfs I am aleays 1 or 2 cards out of an even 26, does anyone know of any methods of cutting the deck exactly in half?

It's a pain in the behind to get right but it's a lot easier than getting the Faro shuffle down. I think people think it'll be easy so put a lot less practice in.

Put a recognisable card at the 26th position and just break for the Faro shuffle as per normal, making sure you hit that card. It's just a muscle memory thing combined with the ability to gauge the difference in packet size accurately.
Just keep cutting the deck in half and soon enough you'll be getting 26 cards in each a lot of the time.

Thanks mate, I will just keep practicing another idea I thiught of was cutting in half and because I was only 1 or 2 out putting the 2 halfs side by side on the table and pushing over the excess cards making the 2 halfs the same height, but I think that coupled with the faro might be a bit too fishy.

To add to what Lenoir said regarding putting a recognizable card at 26th...
stack the deck in new deck order, do 8 perfect out faros and the deck will return to its original order, therefore you can remember which cards are at 26 for each faro between 1 and 8, then always cut to that card (saves you having to put the same card at 26 each time)

hope that makes sense

Yeah man thanks I basically learning it so I can get in to the mnenonica stack ... From NDO (well NDO according fo juan tamariz)

So I guess I could take your advice and learn the 26th card from each faro up until the point that its in the stack ( cant remember right now )

Thanks again guys

Could you use a short card in the middle position? Being rubbish at cards and having never tried learning how to faro I've got no idea if a short card would mess that up. Perhaps a striped card or a narrow card would work better than a short?

Perhaps just a corner shortened card?

short, (or corner) or thin, or a crimp

if not are applicable then unfortunately its a case of guess and repeat until the muscle memory hits

Using a corner short will work...
but then you'll never actually learn to cut at 26. My advice is to just practice... lots.

what happens if you're using a deck without the corner short? you suddenly lose the ability to perform those particular tricks.

Hi guys unfortunately short cards corner cards dont really work as I need to do 4 in a row, but it is a good idea for muscle memory. I just remember the 26th card down at every stage of the faros while practicing and hopefully in a good few months I will have this down. It really is a shame that I will never have an oppurtunity to perform these tricks as my usual audience have the attention span of goldfish.
