Sounds like some of us could benefit from the insight of Mr. Brown. . .
- The audience KNOWS you are performing tricks.
- you are ENTERTAINING them, not trying to make them believe you are a super-being. not many believe houdini had super-human powers.
- a few flourishes can add to your overall impression to your audience. IE before performing any tricks you can convince the audience that what you are about to show them is well practiced and worth their time to watch.
- learning a flourish or two builds manual dexterity and can only help you perform sleights quicker, more consistantly, and more naturally.
- Card magic is showing off to begin with. What are you trying to do with your audience? Bear that goal in mind while planning and performing your tricks.
Don't play John Edwards because then your audience will call you a quack if you mess up (yeah we all do).
theres my 2 cents. . . err, for our overseas friends, my .02 euro. . .
