Restricting guests from having tables and being seated?! Ridiculous!!

Bring back Paul Daniels!! I used to have the utmost respect for Dynamo making it but now if he can't even do table magic I wanna know how hard he actually worked to make it!

Don't worry guys ill bring back the classic style to our tv's one day! Promise!

There is nothing here to suggest that he's responsible for staging the event. He knows how close up is done at conventions, and should of had input.

This is down to the bookers, yet reflects badly on Stephen.

Wouldn't someone with more audience awareness have taken charge of the situation regardless and organised the crowd so that they could see, though?

Sounds like the promoters don't have a clue about staging magic.....

Not always possible to do this. also looking at the details it appears that who ever booked him to do this gig was dealing with a second party, rather than Stephen directly.
Added to this looking at the promoters web site, they have only ever had any experience with musicians

They say that they were expecting walk around, he was set up to do close up at a table.

Being wise after the event, I guess whoever manages Steven will now send someone to recce the venue and make sure this doesn’t happen again. Even if it's not under his control, his name is still associated with the mess.

Paul Daniels used to relate stories of battles with promoters who knew nothing about magic and he had to fight hard to get the venues set up properly, angles etc all taken into account and anything else which would ensure the audience get full value and entertainment. Another magish, can't remember who, told the story of a booking he had at a very posh stately home where he was to entertain at a party of some kind with a seated audience of a hundred people or so. When he arrived he found they'd specially cleared a large banqueting room arranged chairs for the audience, a slightly raised platform as a stage and several table etc for props. he only thing they'd not taken into account was that the walls of the room were all covered with tall mirrors in gilded frames, even behind where the magician was to perform! I gather the problem was solved by bringing in screens to act as a backdrop but ever since that time the magician always made a point of arriving several hours early to check such things.

It is a bit bad though when you consider that you should really never leave anything to chance at venues. Ok, nothing is going to run perfectly all the time but getting there early, running through things with staff and rearranging various things before the audience arrives is a get go i'd have thought. Especially when you've had as much experience with venues as Dynamo. I agree with the Paul Daniels comment made earlier regarding getting the audience seated or at least a little better organised. It's bloody obvious that as soon as he enters the room a group of 300 people are all going to mob him to get a good look.

Why didn't he just levitate above them so they could see?

It does feel like the venue's fault rather than Dynamo's.

What I'm more interested in, though, is how insanely LONG that newspiece is! Ha. So much unnecessary detail.
