Merry Xmas one and all.
my brother gave me some a4 size playing cards for Xmas, any ideas on routines that I can do with them, bearing in mind that I don't do cards.
all dvd and book suggestions welcome

Ultimate matrix by larry Becker. It appears in Richard Osterlinds ETMMM'S. A padlock locks a few spectators wedding rings and can't be opened. The performer hands out 9 jumbo cards between 3 people. They're shuffled and place in large envelopes. The envelopes are shuffled. A card is chosen one at a time and the numbers are added together. When added up they are the combination for the lock. Easy effect, you can't go wrong and it plays big!! For your BIG cards!! ;)

Merry Christmas

a lot of packet tricks convert nicely to jumbo cards if you can do an upright elmsley count.

Vernons "fingertip" handling was designed for use with jumbo cards. I know many folk use this with regular cards - I do not advise it and am of the opinion that the original is far superior and natural looking when using normal cards (done correctly of course).

If you mean upright as in lifting the cards to say, chest level, it doesn't work - not the standard Elmsley anyway. If you try it in front of a mirror you'll notice the transfer of the first card can clearly be seen, regardless of which way the cards are facing.

There's a variation of it, I don't know off the top of my head who originated it but Liam Montier put out a DVD called the elmsley count project and I learned it from there.

its done so that the cards are facing away from you as you count.

That's the "fingertip" variant

In which case it can't be viewed from the other side. The original, and the fingertip version are the same method wise, just a different way of holding the cards.

The only packet trick I do is a jumbo version of Rainbow Cascade, from Davenports, which uses the Elmsley Count. It's fine for that.

Two suggestions for A4 cards: Marc Paul's Giant Card Mind Reading (from his Direct Mind-Reading lecture notes) and Barrie Richardson's Giant Pairs Repaired (in Act Two).

The version Liam teaches he calls a "vertical Elmsley" and effectively you have the "dirty" side towards you at all times. It is very effective to an audience.

So its the Vernon handling done backwards ? I'm not familiar with this. I don't use jumbo cards though, so have never really had the need for such a move.
