Would anyone know the name of these routines?

Struggling with an effect? Any tips (without giving too much away!) you'd like to share?

Definitely find a deck of cards you like, shop around. I was a pure bicycle user for 8 years until I played with Tally Ho. Then I used those almost exclusively for 5 years, and for the past while switched back to bicycles. Tally Hos have a slightly thicker card stock. This helps them to last longer. But, this can also make it slightly awkward if you are doing complicated sleights. Also you might notice that some cards have different coatings on them. I have found that the coating on bicycles can cause them to break/cut the deck when I don't want them to or otherwise be too slick. Also, bicycles sometimes come out of the box with a very slight lengthwise bend that makes card handling annoying, especially when that combines with the previous coating issue. Who would have ever thought so much would go into card selection!

Also, I don't know what I was thinking and gave you a bad suggestion! That last trick is likely not a variation of Triumph. My old brain is disorganized with magic knowledge at this point I guess. Triumph is a trick where the deck is shuffled with some face up and face down and they magically right themselves. It also has more variations that I do old decks of cards! Now, there is a trick called Oil and Water where you have about 10 cards, equal red and blacks. And each time you shuffle them they stay separated as red/black. Although, you probably saw a trick called Out Of This World. Which, has just as many variations and overall methods as Triumph. I personally love Kentons DVD set, Trick Deck Real Deck. In it, there is an amazing version of OOTW that uses any deck. It isn't for the faint of heart though.

Again, sorry for the slip of the mind! Hope that helps.

I'll probably upset everyone but I absolutely detest OOTW. I think I saw it and learnt how to do it when I was about 4 years old. The trick itself drags on and on and any spectator who has half a brain cell must recognise what the end result is going to be. I also think it's one of the most over-exposed tricks around and any basic search of youtube will result in a plethera of grubby teenagers performing/exposing it - badly. OOTW world is like an old joke where you have to ask 'stop me if you've seen this one' before you perform it.

HOWEVER, the actual principle of OOTW is absolute perfection. There are many examples of people taking this principle and applying it to other areas. It may be an ESP deck, a collection of photographs, blank facing decks with whatever words printed onto them. When a magician/mentalist disguises the principle in a different presentation with an engaging narrative the effect becomes exciting and unfathomable. But, as a simple card trick, where reds and blacks are separated, I find it convoluted and predictable.

I know I've committed a sin by saying this and so I apologise in advance!

I agree, the classic OOTW plot is a bit convoluted. But I have seen some beautiful versions of it. Have you ever seen Lennart Green do it FACE UP?! Loved it. Of course it is all nuckle breaking skill there and very little spec involvement.

As far as I know it isn't included in any routines he does, so I doubt a video of it could easily be found on youtube. You can see him do it on the Lennart Greens Green Magic 7 DVD set. That may be an expensive way to see it, but that DVD set is rife with amazing ideas. I learned a utility move from it that enables me to stack/separate a deck in about 30 seconds in front of spectators and have NEVER been called out.

I thought it was DaOrtiz who did it face up...can't remember a Green version...although I am almost certainly wrong.

Not really the same thing but I've always loved this...

That's a wonderfully clever use of the system! Excellent handling!! I wouldn't want to be giving those cards away at the end!! ;)

wow, faceup was amazing!

although my friend didn't do it face up, he showed us a the deck was shuffled and not preprepared (hah, im kind of not sure how to say this, maybe the deck was preprepared but it appeared as if it were not)

by the way, is there some sort of guide to magic jargon, or will i just have to get used to it?

spec = spectator.

You will hear more of these terms as you go along. Nothing complicated. Now to go do my ACR with a TP, DL, and P.

Why not throw an ACAAN in, before ringing in an ID, then vanishing the (rolled up) card with a TT (possibly setting you up for a CTW)?

Sorry, just wanted to test my acronym knowledge!

Well, I am more of a mentalist so I will probably do a MC with a PATEO.
