How important is it to have a personal tutor?

Struggling with an effect? Any tips (without giving too much away!) you'd like to share?

I had a mentor, the best anyone would ever wish to know, and he taught me so much in a relatively short space of time, people like Allen Tipton are few and far between though

I am lucky enough to have known a friend for a decade who is very experienced and very generous with his time, and a couple of guys from the London meets are also top people who enjoy sharing ideas and giving advice

I did in fact get in touch with a pro who posts on the site about a little bit of tutoring and help, but being the nice guy he is, wouldn't take a penny and gave me the afternoon of his time

There is a wealth of advice available on the forum, and within the regional meets not to have to pay anyway...

Are you watching closely? Then I'll begin...

To me, that is the true mark of a professional, to give his time freely to those in need.

Mark, fully agree. Could not agree more. One of the essential pieces to mentoring is that relationship where the mentor sees your potential and helps it mature. It is about the love of the art and helping it flourish. When money is involved, it becomes a "job" and the value shifts from the art to the money.
