HP Magic Box

Postby Mandrake » Feb 11th, '05, 17:19

HP as in Harry Potter, not the sauce, of course!

I was in our local PoundStretcher at lunchtime (it's very close to our local 'The Works'!) and I noticed they were selling Harry Potter Playing Cards in a 'Magic Box' (you know the one - you show it empty, close the drawer, open it to reveal a full deck of cards or whatever) and it was just £1. Not exactly Las Vegas stuff but, if you're doing kid's parties or something like that, it's a cheap and cheerful trick box to use. You'd probably have to remove or cover up the Harry Potter picture for non HP effects but that's not too difficult. PoundStretchers are all over the UK so you might get lucky if you want one!

I regularly perform at kids birthday parties for friends and do them for free. I find that apart from the performance, it's always nice to give a little present so that they remember the occasion. This is just the sort of thing that goes down a treat and for a pound you can't go wrong. What better, to give a set of magical cards in a magic trick box - from a magician.

I'll be buying up a few of these to put away for such an occasion.

It's not really an optical illusion - it just looks like one!

Another useful feature is that the cards, made by Carta Mundi, have a one way back which would help locate a card selected and then 'lost' in the deck. The face designs might also lend themseves to a different arrangement whereby you could keep track of them. And all for a quid!
