Deck Vanishes

Postby 3 ♣ » Mar 19th, '13, 14:52

Hello,

I find the idea of vanishing a deck of cards appealing for some reason. I feel it would make a really cool ending to a trick. My problem is I have no idea where I can learn any techniques for doing so. I'm not necessarily looking specifically for material on vanishing decks, but if anyone could point me towards any books or dvds where I might learn some techniques amidst others I'd be extremely grateful.

Cheers

Laurens

I knew David Stone told a way of vanishing a deck of cards in his speech named "David Stone's real secret".I hope that this will help you. :D

There's a nice one in Expert Card Technique by Hugard and Braue. I haven't tried it out on an audience yet, but it's one that I'd like to give a go at some point. It's called 'Vanishing Pack' (imaginatively enough), in chapter 8, p. 315 of the Dover edition. It doesn't use any gimmicks, which I suppose makes it quite flexible, and it has most of the misdirection built in. It starts off as a normal pick-a-card trick with two spectators, then at the very end the rest of the pack disappears to leave their two cards behind. Worth a look at any rate.

Check out Takel's Travelling Deck and the Omni Deck, too.

Neither are a complete vanish, but both do feature the deck going seriously AWOL :D

Derren does a deck vanish at the conclusion of his 3 card trick (devil's picturebook DVD). But this one is very dependent on your situation and wouldn't work (for example) when strolling.

There's a nice deck vanish at the end of Cameron Francis' killer trifecta on his impromptu magic DVD

I would also recommend the Travelling Deck by Takel, A great closing vanishing deck routine if routined well. If you have a magic smoke v2/pure smoke this added to the Omni deck absolutely kills!

Get the new James Brown DVD Hide and Seek. Brilliant if slightly ballsy vanish of just about anything!
