Masked magician is a masked muppet

Postby johnnyryanUK » Mar 19th, '13, 19:22

I know as brother of magic we don't applaud revealing secrets.. But you have to feel sorry for this silly man who knew he was coming on tv to perform a VERY SIMPLE card trick.....

I've seen this before, but as much as I dislike what he does, I felt his pain and embarrassment :P

I love one of the comments:

That awkward moment when you are so glad you have a mask on.

QUESTION:
If we can sue McDonalds for making us fat and cigarette companies for giving us cancer; why can't we sue Smirnoff for all the ugly gits we've sh*gged ??

How the hell did he do that. I need someone to expose this one cause that was baffling... I have no idea how anyone could screw that trick up...

Hey, mistakes can happen to the best of us, even simple tricks.

Awww I could barely watch! Card tricks don't get much more cringe-worthy than that! Awkward.

I saw how he went wrong. It seemed like they were errors in comunication. He said put three on the bottom and one on the next pile when it was suppose to be three on the bottom and one on each pile. When she did this as he stated on the first pile he didn't correct himself and restate the instructions.

I guess this illustrates why the masked magician does what he does...

Admittedly he is on a foreign TV show, but even so his performance skills are worse than mine and I'm an amateur who hasn't really got the guts to perform to anyone apart from friends. I have learnt this very trick, but its a bit awful if you don't add some kind of interesting patter to it, without that it just becomes 'do this with all the piles of cards, oh look aces' which might be interesting, but it's not really a trick... And starting it off saying that this is a trick even children can do, is setting them up to be completely underwhelmed by it. When I've done this trick (probably twice at most) admittedly I took my patter about card sharp's skills not being all that, and that anyone can cut to aces from RRTCM, but its still better than 'here's a trick that a blind chimp could do... Do this with the cards...'

Which leads me to the conclusion that the masked magician does what he does because he lacks the ability to be able to perform properly, or do anything innovative. So he sticks to revealing secrets with a narration over the top so that he doesn't really have to do anything other than go through the motions (presumably with as many takes as it requires for him to do so).

Perhaps I am reading too much into this. Perhaps he actually is an adept performer, but just messed up on this occasion?I cannot be sure, but it makes me wonder...

How do we even know this is the real masked magician? it could be anyone, like santas at the shopping centres. For all we know it's the a bumbling bufoon who they grabbed off the street. Mind you I think the real explanation is that he's out promoting his DVD and all the bad patter is because he's got one thing in mind, "make me rich!!!". either way this is a big whopper of a botch up, "anyone can do it even kids", except apparently the Masked Magician    .

I don't know if this was the masked magician or not. Don't really care. While I don't like exposure or those who expose intentionaly or not. I can tell you that the real masked magician is a very talented performer.

Well if it was the real McCoy then that video does him no favours.

As already pointed out above, errror was because the spectator didn't follow the magicians instructions correctly (more than likely due to the language barrier) which although a bit of an amature mistake, can happen to the best of us.

I will agree however that the trick itself (as also pointed out above) is truely aweful - I hate these types of self workers beca=use they are nothing more than matamatics with cards that don't really impress anyopne.

Valentino (Prior to his days as the Masked Magician) had a residency in Vegas which muSt say something about his performing skills surely?

That wasn't Valentino, it's the guy who appeared in the more recent Masked Magician shows which were produced by Val Valentino.
