Will I get completely slammed if I say Blaine? If so then I can opt for Houdini...

No law against liking Blaine. He's a cool guy.

For me, it's got to be Lennart Green.
Partly for his stunning card handling, partly for his originality, but mostly for his wickedly dry sense of humour.

I agree.

From most of the reading I've done online it seams like he is surrounded by a stigma--like he is just trendy--but I see a lot of value in his approach.

I have many 'favourite' magicians in mind....probably too many to mention in one post!

However that said I am going to 'nominate' René Lavand as my all time memorable guy! Only having one arm has not stopped him from creating REAL magic...in the sense that his presentation and manner (even though his accent makes him even more intruiging to listen to) and sheer brilliance considering his hinderance is mind blowing.

I first saw him on TV doing his "I'll do it slower for you but it can't be made simpler than that....." routine, and to be fair it has stuck in my mind for years!!! And for that reason alone - because it knocked me off my feet and was the best routine I ever saw and still to this day it burns in my head - I am giving him the honour of being my 'favourite'. 8)

L8R

After thought - I will see if I can find a vid clip of that routine to post here later !

Well, Lennart Green is excellent, and watching Rene Levand live is an experience i will never forget - truly magical.

However i like the mentalism of Derren Brown - revolutionary.
My style is similar to Andy Nyman, and i love the way he scripts the tricks - his patter is fantastic.

I like Boris Wild, who's a french magician and his card work is neat. He won the card magic section at F.I.S.M. in Dresden 97, with an emotional piece of magic called the Kiss Act - It's powerful and emotional and magical - it's great.

So yeh, those guys...Oh and...
Julianna Chen's card manipulation act is pretty funky too... :D

Great Choices

I definatley agree that Lennart Green is very fun to watch. Seeing previews of his FISM act are astounding, even though I can figure out most of the things he is doing, it is still amazing. His lazer deal is incredible and he handles it perfectly.

Chan Canasta, Paul Daniels, Jerry Sadowitz, Juan Tamariz, Simon Drake...

Names from the past with a helluva lot of significance for me.

First names I grew up with were Canasta and Daniels... the Paul Daniels show was my weekly highlight for many years.

More recently: Andy Nyman, Lennart Green, the fantastic Derren Brown, Jay Sankey

The lists of inspirations are endless.

But, most of all, I get inspired by my audience—because it's them who are my canvas.

I also grew up watching Paul Daniels at teatime on Saturdays.

I've more recently discovered Lennart Green and have a couple of his tricks and am impressed, although his work is not the easiest to replicate which demonstrates just how skilled he is.

Also check out Dominique Duvivier who's also an awesome card magician

Jay Sankey all the way for me, he has a fantastic teaching technique, is witty, and has some killer magic real world routines, i know for a fact that most of my walk around magic is from Sankey DVDs

HAHAHAHHAHAHAHA

I didn't realise that I had put that statement in there... rolling in fits of laughter here! It was meant as a 'mickey take', but I just realised how 'Evangelically Spirtually Profound'

Apologies for my cheesy cornyness!

For me has to be either a young magician called Steve Della for his cups and balls, Or David Penn for his stage oragami box and smoke pyramid.
